I was shocked today when we took change into the bank to be shown to a machine and ask to put it in.. ok than after it was finished to be told they would charge us a % of what we had and they asked for a charge of $148.00 I was shocked so I said not in this life time give me back the change… we are on a pension after an accident robbed us from employment so I save all our change until we reach the target of what we need to do with it so there was no way they were getting $148.00 of my money. So while we waited for my change back which took them a while one of the staff members had rung head office to ask if this charge could be waved to come out and tell us what she thought was good news head office said they would only charge us $70.00 to which I replied keep counting my change I’m waiting. Now it would have taken very little time to give us notes but it took a far while to give is back our almost $1500.00 in change. I am sure banks make enough with out these utterly stupid charges. Getting it back in change cost us nothing but our and there time

  • That is ridiculous! What bank was it? Last time, which was a while ago, I went to my bank to use the machine, it didn’t charge a cent. Greedy they are!

  • I used one of these machines at the Commonwealth Bank and they didn’t charge me anything when I took the receipt to the counter and asked for notes. Maybe it was because it was under $50. Now I keep my change in a piggy bank at home, and I check it ever few weeks, and put it in money bags in amounts of $5 & $10. Then I take the bags to the bank and they weigh them. Bit rude asking to charge people for counting change, especially if a machine does it.

  • I turned up with coins all counted and correctly packed in those coin bags to deposit in my credit union account and they told me to empty the bags into the machine and it would give mr a receipt to take to the counter with my card to make the deposit. They charged $2.00. I am an association treasurer and deposit coins in coin bags in the association’s CUA account. They weigh the bags to confirm the amount and there was no charge last time I did this.

I am thankful that the bendigo bank has one of those machines, but does not charge you to deposit it into your account

  • Oh this is terrible. Not sure which bank but our local bendigo bank does not charge a thing. All you need is an account to deposit it into. I do love the coin counting machines.

  • no they charge 10% no matter how large or small the amount is. We went past and noticed they now have a sign up stating the use of the machine you will be charged 10% of your total counted. Yet they tell you to put it through there as they don’t deal with coins any more since the machine was installed

  • wow!!! That is horrible!! I didn’t know did this!!!

  • I had no idea that they charge a %, it has to be because you had so much to count. I usually take in around $50 to $100 in change to deposit into the kids accounts, fortunately they don’t charge for smaller amounts. I think maybe you need to go in more often with small amounts to avoid any charges. Surely they make enough money, absolutely ridiculous!

  • may be do it in smaller amounts next time to avoid the charges.
