Hello!

My eldest recently had her school play and while the play itself was about as good as you would expect from a primary school play the preparations were so irritating. First of all the sent home a note in the beginning of term 4 saying that each kid in my daughters class needed a plain long sleeved top for their costume, not in term 3 when I could of just gone out and bought one. So I had the joy of going from shop to shop to be treated like a nutcase by the shop assistants for wanting a long sleeved top at this time of year. Apparently it’s unheard of for anyone to want them past August, even the op shops had none. Eventually I managed to get a hand me down from a friend of a friend, thank God. Then my in-laws couldn’t make up their minds which of the two shows to go to, and when they finally did I went to buy the tickets only to find they were sold out, which meant my partner missed out on going as he was going to go to the same show as them so hadn’t bought his ticket yet. According to my in-laws this was the schools fault as the play should of been put on in a bigger theatre at a different school so more people could go, never mind that the school has a purpose built center of performing arts, was putting on two shows and they only made up their minds the day before the dress rehearsal, so only two days before the show. So irritating so glad it is all over!

  • Look at it as a learning experience. You won’t let it happen again next year cos you will know what to expect

  • That would be extremely frustrating! No wonder you’re breathing a sigh of relief that it’s all over. Might be better next year

  • Hoe frustrating

  • yeah i know it can be annoying when things don’t go to plan. we have just done the school choir thing and had to drive 40mins to get to the venue, pay for seats and then drive home at 9:30pm on a school night, with little children as well. i do love the memories we made though and my child gets to be apart of something. the school doesn’t even give the children rewards for attending and only the year 7’s get an award, which sucks when your child and your family put in so much effort!

  • lets hope they have learnt and the next one is not as frustrating.

  • I agree with you. Its time consuming and often expensive and all the rehearsals drive me crazy with start times and pick up times, etc. But I love seeing my kids perform and I love the boost to their confidence that it always gave them. So in the end its worth it. I’ve learnt though, by your tickets early or miss out or sit where you can’t see your kids. Whats more, my 16 yr old has been dancing since she was 3 and there’s been a concert every year for that too. This year, two different dance schools so two concerts. Thank goodness she can now do her own hair and makeup!

  • I had the pain of organising an Aladdin themed costume recently. I know what you are going through. Every place I rang made me feel silly. I finally got it all organised, but it was costly and I had to have the pants altered. I wish when they did these things they would make some suggestions as to where you can get these sort of themed clothes or costumes. You would think Aladdin would be easy, but no it proved to be quite difficult.

  • At least they gave you SOME notice – I hate the ones where they tell you a week before something is needed!

  • I can certainly relate to your frustration.
Organisation skills these days have gone out the window
noone knows how to prepare for something in advance
give people enough notice to buy or pay for things
    its frustrating

    • Yes they certainly seemed to be a lot better planned when I was growing up. To be honest it’s quite stressful and I can’t wait until next week when it’s all over with.
