Hello!

I write this with great sadness, my [now] husband and I were lucky enough to purchase our first property at 21. We worked hard in our 20’s, no overseas holidays, crazy parties etc. the things normal 20 somethings do. It is a little place but its ours, something tangible to represent our sacrifice. its in an ideal location however we cannot renovate to extend due to various reasons. as we now have a family who obviously has outgrown the place we must sell.
My practical mind knows its for the best but my heart is breaking. I keep having to remind myself its for bigger and better things

  • What a shame you couldn’t even rent the place out just so you can keep it. We lost a family home when my fathers business didn’t do well when we were older children and it was one of those things where it as inevitable so I do know how you feel . It will always be in your heart and the good times .

  • A first home is always memorable and special as so many firsts occur there.

  • We lived in our last house for 18 years and I couldn’t wait to move.

  • Our first home saw all 3 boys through from birth until they all had started school & it did feel sad leaving there but moving into a bigger home with more space gave us the room to spread out & enjoy it.

  • Change is often hard – we always hold a special place for our first home. Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

  • It always helps, doesn’t it, to tell someone what’s in your heart and on your mind, even if it’s just writing it all down. Just acknowledging your sense of loss is the first step in maintaining your well-being while you work out your new “normal” in a different home. You have made the right decision for very good reasons. All the very best!
Reading your story made me remember those who have lost their homes through circumstances out of their control like bush fires. My brother in law and wife lost their home that way. It took a lot of mental and emotional adjustment moving into their replacement home but they focused on helping each other stay well and counting their blessings.

  • Home will always be where your family is. So the new place will fill like home in no time.

    • Very true! Family does make a home and love fills it! :)

  • Im sure it will be such a sad day the day you have to leave your lovely home but at least you know you can now move to a bigger family home and start new memories there with your children.
    Good luck

  • I was they same as you we had our first house for 10 years and it was full of gardens and my kids were born there, and to this day won’t go past it as there are just many memories but we have been here for 19 years now and would never leave but that is because we swapped the city for the country.
