Hello!

At present I am sick and tired of hearing about diets, new, old , do this, don’t do that, try this, try that.
Over the week-end my Sunday paper featured a story about how Elle Macpherson was unhappy with her body, health and the fact she was putting on weight around the stomach. Now this just had me thinking if her wonderful diet was not working what hope did I have. Two years ago, Elle Macpherson sat down with nutritional doctor Dr Simone Laubscher, who recalls that “she cried”. The model and mum’s seemingly healthy diet – no red meat, no alcohol and three litres of water daily, as well as numerous supplements – wasn’t working anymore. She was fed up with gaining weight and feeling bad, and she needed help. ,” Macpherson says. Laubscher introduced her to the idea of an alkaline diet, which marked a turning point in her health. “I noticed changes in just two weeks: I had more vitality, my skin wasn’t dry, I stopped craving sugar, my mood stabilised, everything became more balanced. A welcome by-product was losing weight around my middle.” The acid-alkaline effect
The theory is that a high-acid diet creates a breeding ground for disease and leads to poor health. “If you’re getting aching joints, gaining weight, craving carbs or sugar, or you have brain fog, then you’re running too acidic,” Laubscher says.
Dr Stephan Domenig, , says the alkaline diet is “the opposite” of a typical western diet. It’s based on the idea that optimal health comes from balancing the body’s pH by eating more fresh veg and fruit, as well as certain legumes, grains and nuts.

Well the above regarding aching joints, craving sugar and brain fog is certainly a symptom of mine but I am reluctant and will not cave in on agreeing to go on a drastic diet that certain doctors and specialists are stating is just as damaging in it’s self. Their are so many diets and fads floating around at present that it makes my head spin. After our parents and gran parents and their parents eating butter for so long, doctors and heart specialists told us margarine was the way to go, now would you believe that there is a switch back to butter by many. Seriously even good old bread and water has pros and cons, water well some say natural spring is best , some say tap has to many chemicals, some say grainy bread is better as it has good fibre, others say bread is to highly processed.
In conclusion darn if Elle (the body) with her perfect figure was not happy with her body and diet, I think its time people start to LOVE THEMSELVES and resort to eating a balanced diet and GOOD PORTION CONTROL.

  • This is so very true. No diet works in the long run.

  • I totally agree. People first need to love the inner, before they can love the outer

  • Too many diet fads around, makes healthy eating so confusing. I have to admit to trying a couple of fad diets…..none of them have worked. I generally eat healthy, avoid salt and sugar and unhealthy fats (but haven’t eliminated them altogether) so I guess I’m doing good enough. I would like to be thinner and more toned, but who wouldn’t?

  • oh for goodness sake. Elle is 50 and she’s had, what, two kids? Of course she doesn’t have the body she had at twenty. I think there’s a serious problem with not accepting that your body changes as you get older and do stuff like giving birth.

    • Yes totally agree. She has struggled over the years with her body changes. Nothing is ever the same after birth and it’s all part of the love and sacrifice of having a child.

  • I gave up on diets a long time ago i got fed up with one minute it was this diet then the next it was a different diet.
Now i just exercise a lot more ie walking and try and not eat to many sweets and i have actually lost more weight doing this than i ever did when i was basically starving my body of food.

  • Great article. I don’t care for diets either. I love my butter and have never wavered from that and I love cheese and all things dairy lol to be honest. I have found in the past that depriving myself of essential carbs leaves me hungry and crabby, so it’s not for me at all.

  • Well said ladies, nice to think stress from worrying about food will NOT take us out in a box.
Thanks for all your wonderful input. :-)

  • I’m with you on this. Sick of all the diet talk, low carb, high carb, good fat, bad fat, low fat, grains, light, fat free, omega this and omega that, people preaching about what we should and shouldn’t eat. We’re not children, we’re well aware of good and bad foods, however it’s our choice.

If I want a chocolate or a Big Mac, I’ll darn well have them.

I’m here for a good time, not a long time.

  • The only thing I try to do is keep away from processed foods, prepackaged foods and cook from scratch. I try to include as many fruit and vegetables as I can. I also use butter as I think it is less processed than margarine and for some reason, in my mind, that makes it more natural. I would rather be happy than be thin ;)

  • I eat what my body craves and sometimes it is nothing but fruit for months and than it may be red meat. I don’t care for diets at all and I will eat and drink what I feel like. As long as I am happy as life is to short to worry about certain things. A celeb putting on weight …. when some of them look like they need a good feed is not the end to my world. I agree this is bad for you that is bad for you than hang on we will change the fad and now that is good for you and this is no longer good for you.
I am not up on what is the in diets and what are out as I have never been on one and never will as far as I am concerned….I will still go on and eat what I crave for example I just made 7 flavours of jelly as I feel like jelly….my bad lol
