I was lectured by a young girl for standing too close to the lift door once (turns out I wasn’t), after she gave another lady a lecture about pressing the “down” button (guess what? there’s not such thing in a lift) in the most condescending manner. All while she chatted away with a young man with a trolley who stood 1/3 of the way in the lift without considering others trying to get in with prams. I couldn’t help saying to her “people actually know how to operate the lift without you having to teach them, so just keep your comments to yourself” She was a little taken aback and mumbled something which I didn’t catch as I walked out the lift. Not sure if it’s a lack of courtesy in this case, or just lack of patience and intelligence. Maybe a bit of everything.

  • By young “girl” I meant around the 18~20 yr mark (me being not so young anyone younger than 20 is a girl to me). If it was a real littlie I would’ve minded so much, I’d just think they’re being cheeky. But this “girl” or perhaps I should call her a young woman really, is definitely old enough to know better!

  • What age are you referring to when you say ‘young girl’? As Im 28 and some elders still view me as a young girl! In saying that, I was brought up with manners, common sense and taught to respect my elders. Im finding that people (even the ones brought up to respect etc) are just rude now and don’t think. Our local shopping centre travelator broke down so we all had to queue at the lift. Adults, children, babies, prams, trolleys and mobility scooters. With the lift going down twice with young couples with trolleys (only 2 trolleys at a time), my turn came. I ‘parked’ in one corner and everyone filed in after me, fitting FIVE trolleys and some people with grocery bags! Its really sad to say, common sense isn’t so common any more, and manners……

  • I think this little miss certainly missed a few manners lessons from her parents. Wow how cheeky of her to speak to adults in that fashion. My son has occasionally been cheeky to an adult at which point I really pull him up. Apart from that people say he has lovely manners and is considerate of others.

    • The little miss wasn’t a child, otherwise i think the OP would have laughed.
