  • Backpacks should not be too heavy but sometimes it is unavoidable! The key issue is how it is carried! Most kids carry them too low. It is better to carry them high up on their backs towards the shoulders that way the weight is more evenly distributed. That is the way the army are taught men and women to carry those heavy backpacks. My hubby just gave me that info and he was in the Army Reserve for 36 years! Hope that helps.

  • Lunchbox, drink bottle, hat, and a change of underpants are my essentials for a kindy kid.

  • i was thinking why did my child even need a bag lol. all she had in it was her lunchbox and home reader folder. once a week she had a library book. once all their stuff is at school, they won’t have a lot in their bag

  • My eldest granddaughter is starting school too & they were told at their orientation day just a bag/backpack, lunch box & drink bottle. I’m hoping I win the Smiggle pack on here!

  • Also; good to check on how the bag is going after a couple of weeks. I changed a bag as it was not offering enough support(the shoulder straps). We went for another bag with padded shoulder/back support. Kids always look like they will topple over! but they don’t! :) Hope she has a wonderful first day of school! :)

  • Lunchbox-fabric ones are lighter than plastic and a water bottle-small one. They don’t need much!

  • My little one is starting school this year too. I using the smaller backpack she used for preschool. All she needs is a lunchbox, drink bottle & library bag. Maybe extra underclothes if required. The school provides most other things and larger items of stationary stay in class.

  • Not much for little ones besides a lunch box, maybe spare clothes and anything they need to comfort them?
They don’t need workbooks or pencil cases, I’m pretty sure the school provides all that the first year. :)
