I would just like to send out a huge THANK YOU to all fire fighters for the amazing work they have done and pass on my heartfelt and sincere sympathy and prayers to the families that have lost loved ones and to send my thoughts, love and strength to those who have lost homes.
We lost a very wonderful man that was fighting firers in a neighbouring town near us. Bless you Paul and may you now rest in the Lords arms.
I am also heart broken at the lost of lives and property in SA and send my love and prayers.

A volunteer firefighter who died of a suspected heart attack while battling a blaze in the Hunter region has been named as Deputy Captain Paul Sanderson.
Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said there was sadness right across the firefighting community following the death of the 48-year-old grandfather, who was a 20-year veteran of the service.
Mr Sanderson was helping to contain a five-hectare bushfire at Stanford Merthyr, near Cessnock, about 7pm on Thursday when he collapsed from a suspected heart attack, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) said.
Fellow firefighters tried to revive Mr Sanderson, who was the deputy captain of North Rothbury Fire Brigade, before paramedics took him to John Hunter Hospital, but he could not be saved.
“There is sadness right across the RFS community, right across the firefighting community,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

A woman who died in a fierce bushfire north of Adelaide this week had just opened a public building to offer refuge to local families during the fire emergency.

Janet Hughes, 56, unlocked the institute building at Hamley Bridge and then left, but got only a short distance from the lower north town before she got trapped by the flames.

The bushfire, which started at Pinery on Wednesday and is now contained, destroyed or severely damaged at least 87 homes, South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill has confirmed.

He said that number was likely to increase once an analysis of the fire ground was completed.

A second person killed in the bushfire, Allan Tiller of Pinery, had been fighting the blaze on a farm when he died.

Mr Weatherill said about 90 people have been treated in hospital and five remained in a critical condition.

Fire losses detailed

87 houses completely destroyed or significantly damaged
384 farm sheds lost
89 pieces of farm machinery destroyed
98 vehicles lost

May the Lord keep you in his care Paul, Janet and Allen. RIP.

  • It is lovely to see some of you out there really do appreciate what firefighters do. My hubby has been a volunteer with the CFA in Victoria for over 30 years and loves doing it for the community. They really do put their lives on the line at times. Iwas very cross one day when I was listening to the radio and Kevin Butler from Blaze Aid was on A TALK SHOW he SAID THE CFA WAS GOOD BUT THEY SIT AROUND IN TRUCKS DOING NOTHING waiting for things to happen. I told my hubby and he said what would he rather have?. People and houses saved or paddocks and stocked saved and let houses burn and PEOPLE DIE! The CFA do asset protection and homes and human lives come first.

    • Thank you for taking the time to comment Robyn and PLEASE pass on my THANKS to your wonderful hubby and his fellow comrades they are extraordinary folk that do our country proud.

  • We too lost a firie in our 2013 bushfires due to a heart attack. He had travelled from interstate to help too. So sad, these fires are so devastating and what makes them worse is many are man made. Either by arsonists or carelessness

  • We are so lucky to have so many dedicated firefighters throughout Australia. It is always a tragedy to lose one during devastating fires – that are becoming far to frequent.
