Hello!

My husband and I had waited ten years to try for another baby, our first born son has a rare genetic disorder so we were more than a little apprehensive. I fell pregnant quickly and fronted up for my first doctors appointment at 3 weeks where we discussed the multitude of scans and tests we would start to go through once we hit 12 week mark. I felt great apart from constant morning sickness that was sending me a little bonkers, but at 9 weeks I had a bleed, and not a little spotting, this was a significant loss. It was close to christmas and my doctor was on holidays so I saw a locum filling in for her who comforted me and sent me home with the understanding I had lost our baby. It was a miserable time, my husband and I grieved for our little girl and I felt wretched, but amazingly all my symptoms disappeared overnight, there was no more morning sickness or tender breasts, no more baby. Christmas came and went, we hadn’t told anybody we were expecting so it was a private time for us and slowly we began to feel better.

My doctor came back from holidays after the new year and wanted to run some tests to make sure I was well, this included an ultrasound. I turned up to the appointment feeling horrible sitting alone amongst all the other beautiful glowing pregnant women. I lay down and the technician started chattering away as they have a tendency of doing, not listening I turned away and tried to think of anything else. So it was a surreal moment when I heard the technician ask if I wanted to know the sex!

Long story short it was the best surprise we could have wished for, week 17 and baby was healthy! I had quite severe placenta previa which explained the bleed and we anxiously waited and were told expected another, but lots of bed rest; which proved interesting with a disabled epileptic 10 year old to care for, and some determination and we made it to week 36, then week 40 and after two days of contractions Imogen Joy was welcomed naturally into the world! Every moment since those dark days passed I am thankful for all we have been blessed with.
