Hello!

I felt very blessed to deliver a beautiful baby girl almost 2 yrs after having my son. On day 2 I was ready to go home and was waiting for the peadiactic team to do the newborn check. The dr said her heart had a murmur and it didn’t sound good, gave her a chest X-ray and booked us in to the cardiologist for day 7. I was an emotional wreck not want to let her cry, get worked up! After 5 horrible days we went to the cardiologist. He explained she had three holes in her heart and would need medication to slow her breathing and reduce the pressure on her heart.

Check up 8 wks later, pressure still not good, remain on the medication. Checkup in 8 weeks pressure is now above 70 no more medication!!! for the first time in 5 mths did she not have to have her medi!!! We don’t have to see him until she is 11/2 yrs and there is only one hole left!! Amazing little girl was mending herself.

There are a lot of bubs out there worse off and I feel for them because the worry in my heart for her almost broke me!! Xx

  • I thought they did the check-up the first day. Especially heart, lungs etc. Fortunately your baby’s problem was diagnosed before you left hospital. I hope your baby’s heart heals itself so she doesn’t have to undergo surgery. It must have been very stressful too.
I know a couple who also had a baby girl with heart problems. The baby was about a week old, they were out shopping, at the checkout and one of her parents suddenly realised she wasn’t breathing normally. She was rushed to hospital. They were then told she would have had the problem when she was born. Her slightly older cousin has a heart problem too. The conditions are in no way connected though. Unfortunately he has had to have more than one lot of surgery and it has bruised his heart. Initially the parents of both children queried whether there was any genetic link at all. They live in different states so both hospitals were asked independently.

  • It is so horrible when something is wrong with your baby! One of my boys had pubic hair at 6 months and all the blood tests pointed to liver cancer or a brain tumour. I was an absolute wreck and could not stop crying. we were sent straight to the Royal children’s hospital for further testing and scans and after what seemed like forever, we were told that it was only a hormone issue and by the time he turned 1 it should all be clear and of course it was and he is a very healthy 7 year old.
