I have just came from seeing my doctor GP, as I wanted a check up blood tests etc and now she wants me to go and see a dietican and exercise person to help me lose some weight I know I need to lose some weight but I am a little too scared to go to see the dietican and exercise doctors I know I have to do it not only for myself put for my family also. How can I pluck up the courage to make myself go to see these doctors that I need to see so much I will attempt to go soon or maybe tomorrow or the next day

  • When the time is right for you, you will not have to ask these questions. I have lost 48kg and feel amazing! The guilt over food, people’s judgement and my own discomfort are entirely gone…. People will want to help babe, especially if they are in the industry. Go Girl!

  • As you said, you need to do this for yourself and your family.

  • Good luck, when I had to lose some weight I found seeing the Dietitian was good as it kept me accountable and much more motivated.

  • I understand how scary it is when you need or want to lose weight and the thought of it all seems too much. I joined a gym this week for the first time ever. I am nervous scared and worried people will judge me. Well I should never have feared! Although I still feel a little out of place everyone has been so supportive and helpful and ivebmet some lovely people. Now I just need to stick with it give it everything I’ve got which can be hard sometimes when you have kids and I know that with their help I will reach my goal.

  • I too need to lose weight and have put off seeing my doctor as I know my cholesterol and blood pressure will be up and she will tell me what I know I need to do – lose weight! I’ve just made an appointment to see her and although daunting, it’s also a relief to have finally decided to do something. Good luck with it and know there are many of us going through similar – you certainly are not alone!

  • I have struggled with my weight my whole life and although not overly large now, know how hard it is to watch everything you eat and be healthy. I started out 14 years ago walking for 5 minutes around my back yard and then added a couple of minutes every day just to get fit. It was hard but I did it. Diets don’t work – you have to have a complete lifestyle change. Diets only work while you are on them and then you go back to whatever you want to eat and put the weight back on. You have to change the way you look at food and life. The doctor will not criticise you – they are there to help. Go and see them because you you need to get the help they offer but be honest with them. Honesty with what you eat is the only way they know how to help you. Good luck and I hope you succeed. Your family needs you.

  • Don’t think of it as a negative or scary moment in your life or yep great I’m on a diet think of it as the beginning to a new chapter in your life, cause if you don’t do this it could be the end. I started this year my doctor helps me with everything my diet little extra things I can do around the house that will help with weight management, the first 3 weeks of my life change I only ate fruits, veggies and salad during the week an egg everyday and water and then on the weekends I would splurge on anything that I wanted I also walked everyday. And by doing this I kinda tricked my mind and body into not wanting bad foods cause my mind thought wasn’t guilty that I was eating a Big Mac but far out I actually don’t want this so by the second weekend I didn’t have or want the bad foods but kept eating my salads by the 3rd week I was feeling energised pumped my walking times were getting faster and I was feeling on top of the world that was the first week I jumped on the scales after all my hard work I had only lost 3 kgs so I went into a slump and ate like there was no tomorrow chocolate chips KFC and then I went out drinking yep passed out around 8:30pm I was depressed how could all my hard only result in that much weight loss.. But oh boy was I sick the next day and not hung over but from the food it’s crazy how you actually feel after eating healthy for so long and then eat crap food. So I went back to my healthy ways every morning I would cut up all salad stuff and keep in fridge so I could snack on it during the day. The next week jumped on the scale and after 4 wks I had lost 8 kgs in total now this was exciting, which was exactly what I needed cause it just kept my momentum going now 6 months down the track I still don’t eat takeaway and eat healthy but I’m not so compulsive about what I’m eating as I’m still reintroducing food but I’ve lost 30kgs all up and feeling on top of the world and its not just me its all of us my husband has lost 12 and my son and daughter have lost weight as well.

Anyway getting back to your question it’s not a diet its a lifestyle change and these professional are there to help which will only be a plus for you.but be honest with yourself and remember it’s ok to have a bad day or even week you will get there. Hope this all made sense :-) and good luck
