Ok fellow mums, I’m on a mission! A Facebook friend of mine has just shared a post about the dangers of the flu vaccine, all it’s hidden yucky ingredients and all the ‘alleged’ ailments it can cause. There are a couple of comments on the post, most are anti vaccine, the only pro voice was mine. They’re citing evidence by Drs and health professional, studies that show the link between vaccines and all these nasties. What do you all think? Are you for or against vaccinations? Personally, it scares me that so many are becoming anti and not vaccinating their children. It scares me that so many childhood diseases that were under control are now once again spreading. Yes, I get that there are possible side effects. Most are minimal, soreness, fever, 1 of mine had a dead leg from one. The worse ones, like autism, there are barely any reported cases. I get that if you had a perfectly healthy child, then had them vaccinated and they were no longer normal/healthy, you would be upset and may not be pro vaccines. But I still think the pros far outweigh the cons! And I think if I was one of the unfortunate parents who things went wrong for, I would accept I was in the minority and try move on. I wouldn’t campaign against vaccines, threatening so many other children’s lives. The effects these diseases have on small children, resulting in death sometimes, is terrible. If you were a parent and had to watch your child suffer from a preventable disease…..how would you feel?
Anyway, just putting it out there, it scares me that the tide seems to be turning against vaccines. Looking forward to seeing your views

  • It just seems really unhealthy to not vaccinate

  • Its a personal choice for everyone’s own personal circumstances. The choice however should be educated and advised by your family doctor.

  • The autism link you mentioned with vaccinating has been thoroughly disproven over and over again. That research was flawed and faked so that argument is dead in the water for anti-vaxers. Remember that because they always bring it up. In terms of the flu shot, Drs used to recommend it to the more vulnerable members of society (eg. children and the elderly) as it is supposed to reduce the symptoms of the current flu that is likely to be circulating during winter. Only problem is, the flu vaccine targets the main likely flu for that season but there are often a number of different colds and flus around which is why you can still get the flu and be really sick from it despite being vaccinated. Some anti-vaxers use part of this argument to say that the vaccine doesn’t work which is a flawed argument again. To be honest, I’m not a chemist – I don’t know all the compositions and ingredients in any vaccines but I trust in the system. I trust that the specialists and Drs have our best interests at heart. I trust that my kids may have some minor side effects like fevers, aches and pain because our body is fighting a disease and that is normal. It scares me that my kid is likely at school with unvaccinated kids and simple, straight forward preventable diseases are on the rise and don’t need to be. I challenge anyone who thinks anti-vaxing is an option for your child to spend some time nursing a baby/child with a preventable disease and really see how they are placed at risk and suffer unnecessarily. We have made progress in social health for a reason – this isn’t the 1600s anymore.

  • I believing in getting all required vacs done for your child, but the Flu vac is a personal one, about 4 yers ago my child got very sick from getting it done, but had never had a reaction to any other one they had ever had done…. I only had it done due to having another young child due the time…It was the year there was some huge outbreak of the Flu locally… A couple of weeks late all young kids were banned from getting the same jab my kid had done due to reactions( it was only that year they didnt include the same stuff the following year)… For adults i fully support the flu vax but for kids as i saw my child fully suffer due to having it i have allowed never my children to have it since. I fully support any other required vax, purely how would you feel if some other child made your kids sick ( due to some sily belief) and put them in hospital with a illness that they should be protected from….. Is it ok for your child to suffer just so thoose who do not belive can be happy and not vax thier kids…

  • I am a huge supporter of vaccination. Unfortunately due to the anti vaxxers previously eradicated diseases like measles etc are making a comeback. The people citing these drs and medical studies supporting the negative side effects of vaccines need to keep on top of their research. There have been recent studies suggesting autism and other side effects are very rarely a result of vaccination.

  • I support vaccinations – we have the flu vaccination too and it really is helpful. The vast majority of Dr’s and health professionals are pro-vaccination for good reason – they work!

  • I support childhood vaccinations and flu is optional for those that are compromised with their health and at risk.

  • I am in favour of vaccinations. My daughter got all the obligatory and optional vaccinations. But personally I never gave her a flu vaccination. The only one who gets it in my family is my husband, and just because he has a heart condition. I have one friend that gets her flu shot too every year, but she suffers of asthma.

  • I completely support vaccination. Most of the “anti” surveys are faked.

    • A lot of research has to be looked into and researched as some of the results may be dubious. Sadly, some of this information spreads.
