Hello!

Tomorrow I’m turning 50!
These years really flew by. I quite cannot believe it. I don’t feel 50 (well, just sometimes, when I have pains here and there! :-) ) but I am.
I am an old mum compared to others mothers. My only daughter is 14 and sometimes I compare myself to other younger mums, and I see them with so much more energy than me, so many more years together ahead than me. I know it’s stupid to think like this. Let’s make the best of what we have.Let’s live the present and enjoy the company of the people we love most.
Growing up I’ve learned at least to be more selective about the people that surround me. If somebody drains my energy, well probably that’s a sign that I don’t need him/her in my life. I just want to stay around people that understand me, that make me happy. The rest can go.
Do you also think this way?
At this moment my husband and my daughter are in the kitchen preparing dinner for me. Mexican fajitas. We celebrate one day earlier because, being Sunday, there is more time and we are more relaxed than during a school/work day. I hear them talking, laughing… And that makes me happy. Being around them is the best gift ever. :-)
Are there other 50-years old mums in this comm?

  • Happy 50th birthday to you ! I turned 53 this week :) Like you I’m an older mum. I have 2 kids myself, my daughter is 12 years old and my son 11. We foster as well, I have 2 kids in permanent care, age 6 and 3year, and foster beside that temporary as well. Always busy, but love it.
Yes, feeling definitely older these days especially my skin. Half way the day my face screams for more moisturiser.
Good on you to focus on the positive people in your life, never let the positive sap away by the negative !

    • Happy birthday to you too!!! :-)
It’s fantastic that you foster some kids. Remarkable! Not something for everybody. What a great contribution to the society that you are giving!!!

  • Thank you, girls!
Menopause… I am not there yet but I’m slowly getting there too.
I love that, in this comm, there are women of different ages. It’s so nice because this way you can see things in different perspectives and that is often very helpful. It’s like having more than two eyes!
Thanks to Mouths of Mums too, for the birthday reward! :-)
I received a lot of wishes today. So nice! :-)

    • You are very welcome! This community is very much like having extra eyes and also thoughts. Glad you had a wonderful day. :)

  • Happy Birthday! If you check out the ‘menopause’ Q&A I think you will see that there are older mums on the forum too! It sounds as if you have found lots of wisdom. I concur with ‘live in the present’ and make the best of what you have – whatever age.

  • Congratulations and Happy 50th! I agree with you about not having negative people in your life as they do drain your energy. Continue being positive and enjoy your birthday! :)
