Is anyone studying at Uni that has kids and or babies?

I’m wanting to know how you cope with the load and having to split your time and energy between all.

I would like to start uni but I have a 4yr old, a near 2yr old and a newborn.

  • It’s tough! But with determination you can do it. There is no rule saying you have to attend full time. Maybe try a few uunits per semester until thou get into a routine and gradually work your way up to fulltime. There are a lot of student support services available.

  • I went to four years uni. Had six kids had mum dying and a carer for my husband. I use to stay up late at nights trying to finish my assignments. Time management. I accomplished it. Now i have my own private practice

  • I’m not studying but I have a friend who does with a child at kindy and a preschooler and I know that she has a nanny come in to look after them. She works very hard and I’m sure she is super organised and disciplined. It will all be worth it – good luck!

  • Master of CLinical Psychology here… one almost 2 year old and a 7 month preggy belly. I went part time and have special consideration, plus other personal reasons also.

  • I have a 2 year old, I’m a masters student and my husband is a PhD student. No other family to help. My daughter goes to daycare 8:30-3:30 everyday, I use every spare minute to study. Most of the study is at night though, and I can hardly wake up in the mornings!
It is very stressful when I have lots of assignments, but the husband helps then. I don’t know how I’m doing it but it’s all going well and I’m getting HDs!!

  • I am at uni and I am a single mother, but only have one son that is 4 years old. I study a degree online full-time it is a huge challenge!!! My son is at day care 2 days a week and I have no family and friends where I live to help with me son. You will be able to do it. My advice to you is you must be very organised and pretty much sacrifice EVERYTHING! My time goes to my son and uni. I never get time for me….between juggling being a mother, a father and a student, but I am positive about where it may lead.

  • Good luck if you chose to go ahead with university. I know more than a handful of young ladies that are mothers as well as attending uni, it is a big commitment of your time etc. but if you have a decent support group in your life I’d say its possible :)

  • Anything is possible, thinking you might need to have a good support network to help you out though, all the best.

  • One of my friends is at uni studying to became a midwife and she has two children 5 & 3 she is lucky that her parents are around to help out or her partner takes time from work.
She mainly does all her studying when the kids are in bed.

  • I was at UNi for 5 years pre-babies and now that I have them I couldn’t imagine being full time mum with the work load I had every year. Maybe do part time? 1 subject a semester? I wish you all the best of luck- I’m sure the superwoman instinct will come out and everything will work out perfectly :)

  • I was wondering the same thing. Good luck trying to juggle it all. I think if you want to, you can achieve anything.
