What ever happened to there actually being winners in school – now a days everyone is a winner and everyone gets something for trying. This is not how the real world works – but imagine if it did – go for a job – don’t get it but the company will pay you a lesser salary for just trying. Try out for a professional – sport – you don’t make it but as a consolation we will let you play one quarter of a game. Go for a record contract – nope not good enough but we will make an album with you anyway to make you feel better. Try out for a part in a movie – don’t get it but we will let you be in the movie anyway even if you can’t act for nuts. Where is the responsible raising of our children in schools gone to? ( And yes they do raise them along with the parents) And what kind of children are we raising that don’t know what it is like to succeed or fail??

  • I agree. They don’t even keep score at some Auskick games now because they don’t want a winning and a losing team. It’s ridiculous! The kids need to learn there’s good and bad, ups and downs in life and we all have to deal with them

  • Agree in life there are winners & losers ,we have to teach both .

  • kids need encouragement and not all kids are good at art or sports etc but it doesn’t mean that they should be discouraged from trying

  • i couldn’t agree more. Look at the children of this generation…..they are spoilt and expect everything their way. Everything is handed to them on a platter within effort needed. They take no responsibility and are always looking for someone else to blame. They don’t value anything as it comes too easily…..

  • The difference is children compared to adults; children need encouragement and adults have been through childhood and have the necessary coping skills.

  • I don’t agree with your comments – children don’t need to be taught to win or lose, it happens naturally in life every day. I don’t think it matters that schools don’t encourage winners and losers – they have changed the system because it led to bullying of smaller/less academic children. And I for one prefer this. I don’t shelter my child however, she knows she doesn’t always get what she wants, she understands winning and losing. I think your views are a little close minded.
