Hello!

I have a 9 yr old daughter from my previous marriage and lately she has begun to show signs of regression eg sucking her thumb, nightmares and cuddling toys. I dont know how to help her or what to do. She has been seeing a therapist for over a year but it’s getting worse. Any advice?

  • Sounds very strange. As others have said switch therapists?

  • that is worrying, i would take her to a different therapist i hope it gets better

  • you may need to try a different therapist if nothing seems to be improving, I do wish you the best during this time

  • ask the therapist and if no luck go back to the doctor for a new referral

  • maybe take her to another or why dont you sit her down and have a girl to girl talk and hug her and tell her all will be ok she may just need that

  • I’m sorry to hear but you may seek advise from Doctors to get referral. You could try something like music group and see if she’s any better around other kids. If she’s able to express herself try to talk to her and see if you can find out anything. Or you may seek help from psychologist.

  • Switch therapists… the one she’s seeing sounds a bit suss to me!

  • That’s so sad. Has there been some kind of trauma – i.e divorce, abuse, bullying? Perhaps taking her somewhere she feels safe enough to talk. Do you think a special object might help her sleep better like a ‘dream catcher’ or some nice wordless music, or nice candles/bath before bed. Poor child, it’s terrible that she’s so frightened.
