My best friend Lisa has one little boy aged 3, she is quite certain he will be a only child (as she was) and has no desire to have any more children. She is a stay at home mum and will not return to work unt he is in primary school (possibly). She claims she is only having one child so she can privately educated him and provide him with everything and anything he wants. Here lies my delema, I’m a Mum of 4, my children combined have half as many toys as her son does, however they love them and have their favourites, they respect their toys and their brothers & sister (-at times), but are well mannered and behaved (probably more

So around other people’s kids). My key concern is that Lisa’s son is nothing more than a selfish little brat, he bullies my kids and breaks their toys when he comes over -I’ve tried to gently explain to him, and Lisa that my kids share and (try to) play nicely together but neither Lisa or her son care. After they leave my poor children, all battle wounded and upset over their broken toys. I know put away their favourites when I know Ben is coming over. But how do I discuss this with Lisa?

  • You say you’ve already discussed this with Lisa and her son and it doesn’t seem to gave made any difference to the situation. You may have to consider stopping them from visiting. Maybe you be the one to visit them. Not sure how this will affect things

  • try to encourage the kids to play with something else like play dough

  • Decide if it’s worth discussing with her or just think things and say nothing.

  • Maybe go to their house instead or the local park.

  • I would keep it to myself… I know this is not the best solution but you are risking the friendship if you do
