Hi MOMS,

I have written earlier about how my son had graduated from UNI (with a very good degree may I add. Hey I am a proud mum..aren’t we all.) and how he was without work/looking for work for around 10mths. During the time he was unemployed and looking for work, he applied for many positions a day, he did some volunteer work and did not receive the dole. All this has ended well with him securing a position at a wonderful company with amazing staff and only around a 30min drive from home. He found and landed this job all on his own and is loving it and doing extremely well. During his unemployment time I wrote how very hard it was for the young to gain a job ..he was not quite qualified for top position jobs, the middle section that he was qualified for often asked for experience /future working experience (my view was how the hell does one again experience when a company will not give you a try.) The bottom section he applied for just read his qualifications etc and would not even consider him (believing that he just wanted work till a better job came along.) In general there are not a lot of jobs/positions out there for our young.
Now to the moral of my story: I hear and am constantly being told that the government wants us all to work longer (in years) they want us to work into our 70’s. I and my husband for instants could not see our selves working in a paid job into our 70’s, our health just would not allow this and I am sure this is the case for many, besides call us selfish if you wish but we would like to enjoy our retirement and enjoy what time we have left enjoying life. Also we both feel that the older employee’s are taking jobs that our young need to fill. There are just not enough jobs to go around I feel. Yes I agree that age also deliverers experience and wisdom but I feel that there comes a time when employee’s need to retire and make way for younger ones to step up and I do not agree with raising this age to keep our older folk in work. Our young will go on to again experience, will maybe work their way up the position ladder (so to speak) and at a reasonable age retire and make way for those under them, it is a circle of life and our young will gain experience and grow only if there is the opportunity to do so.
These are my views and opinions but I would dearly love to hear what you think on this subject.
Wishing you all well and love and much happiness to all our youngens are they are our future. :-)

  • I think they’re expecting us to work longer because there won’t be enough young people to fill the jobs.
