My Mum is always saying to me “I’m so glad I’m not bringing up children in this day and age, it’s such a worse place than it used to be.” Every time I turn on the news there are murders, shootings, abductions, molestation, school bullying and fights but surely there were all of these things in the past as well. Is it just that everyone has access to news and media in so many forms these days that we hear about every last thing and it just seems like so much more is going on? If we all thought what a horrible place it is to bring up children and didn’t bring any into it then where would the world be!? How nice would it be though if everyone just focused on their families and weren’t greedy, nasty and hurtful. We can only dream I guess.

  • I only watch the news now and then to keep track of what is happening etc.but I hardly watch the full hour . Even A current Affair can be depressing with sad stories .

  • It was definitely more free and easy when I was a child. There seems to be so much more to worry about in today’s world. But it hasn’t stopped me having children. We need to keep making ‘good’ people so the bad don’t take over all together

  • Bad things did happen way back when except we didn’t have the technology to transmit so fast or vast.

  • Unfortunately it is true it is worse I do agree we hear more due to more media. I am in my 50’s and I can see that it is worse the days when I use to go to the local park and play and walk to school have all gone. I use to go to a friends house I knew what time I had to be home we had no mobile phones in those days. I use to walk home in the dark. As I was getting older they starting changing rules back then for what age you could be to play at the park which now I think back it was good my older brothers were there as they could keep an eye out for me and then they couldn’t be there.
