Hello!

Ive seen a few mums on here who are really struggling with the death of a parent or sibling, so thought i would write my little story.

In 2003 my mum was told she had breast cancer, we were all so shocked i have 2 brothers and 2 sisters and we all just couldn’t even begin to think of life without mum in it.
She went through all the chemo and radiation, but it wasn’t working the cancer wasn’t getting any smaller and to make things worse in January 2004 they told her it had spread, and she had secondary bone cancer we just didn’t know what to do, we just cried and cried.

At the end of 2005 i moved from the UK to Adelaide, with my mums blessing it was such a hard decision but knew i had to go for my husband and childrenI returned every year at christmas.
Mum fought on for another 3 and a half years she died the 24th February 2009 i was on Skype with her at the end which was great and flew back for her funeral.
I have three children from a past relationship, and also had my tubes tied my new husband and i really wanted a baby together. Mum had left all of us some money and with that i started on the IVF journey and on our second round ended up with a little boy(jack) who’s now 4 everyday i look at him i know my mum is with me.
I also lost my brother to a horrible disease MND, he passed away 2 days before jack was born in 2010 and then last year January 2013 we also lost my husbands mum.

Everyday we miss them, and not a day goes by where we don’t talk about them or look back at photos, we planted a tree for each of them, a orange tree for my mum, a apple tree for my brother and a cherry tree for my mil and each year the fruit we get from them we feel very blessed and close to that person again.

I know its a hard time in your life dealing with a death, but i found remembering all the happy times that you shared i won’t lie to you, you will NEVER get over it and people are wrong to say that to you, you just learn how to live with it and deal with the pain and suffering you feel.

Sorry its so long i can dribble on once i start enjoy your day ladies :) xx

  • its only been 3 years since I lost me dad, and well, time has eased nothing yet… tears still swell, and my heart still aches, and my bloody brain forgets and still dials his number.

I do hope it eases, while I know I will eternally miss him… I just hope the pain eases.

  • I lost my dad when I was 14, I’m now in my late 30s.. I agree you don’t get over them, it’s just the aching pain eases.. And you never forget them, as they played such a huge roll in your life.
