Hello!

At the age of seventeen I never expected my life to take such a huge turn and become a mother. But I must say its the greatest thing ever.
It was tough at the start when my Dad wasnt happy about it and being so young but I did it.
My son was born at 31 weeks and was at the hosptial until he was 37 weeks.
Watching my little boy growing up u noticed little differences in him that other kids iv met didnt have. I was told it was normal and that he would catch up. It wasnt until 2 people I know told me that we should get him assessed for Autism.
When we got him checked we discovered that he is in fact Austistic. It was hard but I never loved him less. I loved him more.
Since my sons diagnosis Iv learnt so much about him myself and the community that helps him.
Its tough being beung a young mother and my first being a special needs child but I wouldnt change it for the would. He is everything to me. He alone has taught me so much like a new kind if patience and ways to do things.
He has his meltdowns from over stimulation but its happening less and less.
He is an incredible child making his own milestones and I cherish each and everyone no matter how small it is like doing number 2 on the toilet.

  • You are doing a great job. If you haven’t already done so, think about joining a local support group for families who have children with Autism. There are lots of tips to give your child and yourself the best chance of having a calm and organised day, plus it’s great to chat with other parents who understand what it is like to have a special child.

  • Totally agree with the milestones are always going to be big achievements and never feel
Bad for making a big thing of them. I’m sure people around me get sick of hearing about things to them are just everyday things, but to me they are AMAZING. :)

  • My first is a special needs child too. You’re right, it’s tough sometimes, but I’d never trade him.

  • You are such a strong woman, yes it’s hard having a special needs child, my son was born with spina bifeda, I love him no more or no less than my other children, he just needs extra care, it’s very challenging at times but it does make you grow as a person.
There milestones are always going to be big achievements but never feel bad making a big thing of them, having a lot of support also helps you grow more and adjust,.
A very moving story thanks for sharing.
