It seems collectables aren’t winning over Aussie shoppers! Australia’s favourite supermarket has been revealed.

German supermarket, Aldi, yet again takes home the title.

This marks the seventh time in nine years that Aldi has won Canstar’s supermarket review, with Foodland winning in the other two years.

Aldi won five stars in overall satisfaction, while IGA, Coles, Woolworths and Foodland all scored four stars.

According to Canstar’s analysis of 2,897 adults, shoppers care the most about value for money followed by the freshness of meat, vegetables and fruit, and customer service.

Canstar Blue’s 2019 supermarket review saw the five biggest chains compared and rated in the following order for overall satisfaction:

1st ALDI
2nd IGA
3rd Coles
4th Woolworths
5th Foodland

Bit of a surprise after it was said Aldi stock some of the nation’s most unhealthy foods according to a study.

  • Aldi is definitely my number 1. The cost of a shop there is way cheaper than the others and they have great products. Woolies and Coles are close to where i live so I use them as well for items I can’t get at Aldi

  • Well Woolies is my number one store don’t use Aldi much

  • I shop at multiple stores to get the best deals. I’m not surprised that Aldi comes out on top because in my experience they have a larger range of products and they generally seem to be cheaper.

  • I do most of my grocery shopping at Aldi but it doesn’t always have everything I need so I then need to go to Coles or Woolworths to finish my groceries. If I need a handful of items during the week I usually head to Coles or Woolworths.

  • I’m not surprised but I think most people still shop at Coles and Woolworths

  • It doesn’t surprise me as more peole are getting used to the set up of Aldi. Also a lot of Aldi brand items are not much different in quality to name brand. You can save so much by shopping in Aldi. Although they don’t always stock everything you might need. I love receiving the catalogue as it is always exciting to see what new items they have in store.

  • I would have expected Foodland IGA Supermarkets (as it is known in SA) to be before the IGA Supermarkets. I don’t think there is any Foodland IGA Supermarkets in some of the other states so that would be the reason they are further down the list. Stores under those 2 banners are all independently owned. They are not national or internationally owned businesses.

  • I have been shopping at Aldi more regular although do love shopping at our local IGA although some prices are more than the retail chains.

  • Aldi is certainly good for their breads, fillets steaks, fruit and veg, pantry range and frozen goods. I understand why people find it great value for money.

  • I don’t like Aldi for a full shops but for a top up it’s fine.

  • I didn’t expect IGA to come second. Not surprised about Aldi! I quite like them.

  • Aldi sure is popular. If it was closer to me, I’d shop there more often but alas it is a fair drive when there are other choices half the distance at the most.

  • No idea how they got 5 stars for freshness of their fruit and veg
