It seems collectables aren’t winning over Aussie shoppers! Australia’s favourite supermarket has been revealed.

German supermarket, Aldi, yet again takes home the title.

This marks the seventh time in nine years that Aldi has won Canstar’s supermarket review, with Foodland winning in the other two years.

Aldi won five stars in overall satisfaction, while IGA, Coles, Woolworths and Foodland all scored four stars.

According to Canstar’s analysis of 2,897 adults, shoppers care the most about value for money followed by the freshness of meat, vegetables and fruit, and customer service.

Canstar Blue’s 2019 supermarket review saw the five biggest chains compared and rated in the following order for overall satisfaction:

1st ALDI
2nd IGA
3rd Coles
4th Woolworths
5th Foodland

Bit of a surprise after it was said Aldi stock some of the nation’s most unhealthy foods according to a study.

  • Nope not for groceries. I go to Coles.

  • I do like Aldi for their special buys, but I don’t do my grocery shopping there. I prefer fresh food markets for my fruit and veggies, butchers for my meat and bakeries for my bread – all a little dearer than the supermarkets but better quality and it’s all fresh. General groceries I buy from IGA.

  • No personally I don’t like Aldi. I think the fruits & veggies aren’t fresh enough and in general the store hasn’t a big enough assortment of good and healthy foods to me and too little vegetarian options.

    • I do like to buy every now and then wine & champagne at Aldi though

  • I am not surprised by the results but we prefer to buy fruit and vegetables and meat from the farmers market. The produce is local and tastes fresh and tasty.

  • I think that aldi is the most affordable so that is why it rates

  • I’m surprised at IGA beating the big stores

  • I love Aldi, especially their special buys. However, I don’t shop there as much as the others as I find I can’t get everything at Aldi and I still need to finish my shops elsewhere. So wig 2 under 2 it’s easier to shop at the likes of Woolworths where I can get it all in one shop. Aldi would be so much better and beneficial to me if they had a click and collect option to!

  • I would love Aldi if the bad a delivery or click and collect option. I find going through the checkout far too stressful and I’m pretty loyal to Coles.

  • I shop between them all as I shop based on specials on the things I buy. There are some things I just can’t substitute for specific brands e.g. coffee, diapers (sorry don’t like aldi brand ones at all). I save money that way, but my local woolies always are the friendliest, always have people on the registers, the food is fresh, and great convenience of click n collect too.
Aldi vs woolies own brand, little to no difference. The people that shop at my Aldi are old, rude and impatient. E.g. at other Aldi stores, if I have had only a few items, people with large shops let me in first, NEVER happens at my local and they usually have 1 register open with decent lines. Coles… Their store layout confuses me, and keeps changing and they somehow always make me feel like a thief.

  • These results suprise me greatly, i don’t think much of aldi and never step foot in IGA guess in some areas where its all you have maybe

  • Doesn’t surprise me at all. Cheaper prices and no annoying ribbish giveaways. Whats not to love.

  • I love Aldi & that middle isle with all the mad ???? gets me every time! Go in to get milk & bread, come out with a new throw rug, a wippersnipper & three alpacas ????????

  • WOW – I would’ve thought Coles and Woolworths would have been top 2, not so much IGA.

  • I’m quite incredulous about the IGA results actually. It’s so expensive compared to other supermarkets.
Well, Aldi is cheap, but doesn’t offer a wide variety of products.

  • I’m actually getting a bit sick of seeing these supermarket comparison segments on telly every other week. They all say basically the same things over and over again BORING!!!!!!
