Hello!

In my 20’s a good night kicked off with a few Bacardi Breezer’s and ended when the sun was rising.

These days a good night revolves around peace and quiet and a good sleep.

Wow, how times have changed…

I’ll admit I definitely still love the odd night out with friends, I just can’t do it like I used too. A big part of this is… KIDS!

So, here are my tips to surviving the morning after (with kids!)

1. Water, wine, water, wine, water, wine.

I think you get my drift! Pace yourself (too often my mistake as I get a tad over excited).

Drink water in between drinks and even more before your head hits the pillow. It will assist in making that pounding head feel, well less pounding when you are woken to a finger in the nose in the wee hours.

The main cause of a hangover is dehydration so just keep on drinking!

2. Be prepared.

Chances are you won’t be able to go out for that lunchtime fry up.

So, be prepared and bring the fry up to you. Have everything you may need for you and the kids at home. Eggs, bacon, COFFEE, bananas, hash browns..whatever will give you the kick start you need.

3. Charge the ipad.

Plan a “movie” morning where the kids can get excited to snuggle down and watch their favourite movie.

If, however your children are at an age where movies are impossible (like my two) pick their favourite show and just press play over and over. Anything to distract them and give you peace for even 10-15 minutes is worth it in my opinion.

4. Get outside.

Once breakfast is down and your child has watched enough Peppa Pig re-runs (damn you 5 minute episodes)…venture outside.

Whether it’s to the beach, the playground, the park, the kids will love it and the fresh air will work its magic.

A quick dip in the ocean is sure to cure any niggling head pain – salt water works wonders.

5. Nap time.

Remember how before you had kids, everyone’s advice was always ‘nap when the kids nap’… laughable really when there is always so much to do. On these days though, DO IT. Any down time you can get just bask in it and do the chores another time.

6. Don’t feel guilty.

Lastly, you are a good Mum (and Dad) and you deserve a break.

I am a firm believer that, happy parents = happy children. So, even though hangovers don’t necessarily make one happy, the occasional night out does.

Now, where is my wine glass.

Love to hear any stories on how you got through the day after a night out! Share in the comments below.

  • I never had a night out drinking if I had the kids the next day. If I wanted a night out, I organised sleepovers fir the kids, arranged for them to be dropped home late afternoon the next day, so I had lots of recovery time. If I couldn’t get that, I didn’t go out, simple

  • Honestly, I am going to be a wowser, but I don’t find the need to have massive night outs, and if I do,I make sure my husband knows I am not going to be in good condition for the next day. I’m learning to socialise without getting completely drunk .

  • No more big nighters for me. Nothing worse than waking up the next day and wasting the day some how trying to recover, especially if the kids are always all over u.

  • I don’t know how to have a big night out with kids. I think it’s only possible if you’ve sent the kids to Nans or somewhere for the entire weekend so you can have fun and recovery time too.

  • parents need time out as well. Although I never drink a lot and when I plan to celebrate someone’s birthday etc I always get my mum or nan to baby sit that way my daughter can have a fun filled night and so can I.
