A holidaymaker on board a cruise ship currently docked in Circular Quay in Sydney is reportedly undergoing testing for coronavirus.
NSW Health is testing a man, of Singaporean nationality, for Coronavirus. The passenger was on board The Norwegian Jewel, as reported in The Australian.
The cruise ship has a 2,376 guest capacity and was temporarily placed into lockdown.
The ship has sailed around New Zealand for a 10-day tour before arriving in Sydney today.
However, it is not clear where the man boarded the vessel.
He reportedly fell ill with respiratory illness. He is being tested as a precaution and there is no confirmation that he has the virus.
The ship visited Port Chalmers near Dunedin, Auckland, Tauranga, Gisborne, Wellington and Akaroa.
Off The Ship!
The man has been taken from the ship. Other passengers have now been allowed to disembark from the ship, after earlier being kept on board as a precaution.
Denial
However, in updated news, the operators of the Norwegian cruise ship has said that there’s “no truth” to reports of a potential coronavirus case amongst its passengers.
“This morning there were various false media reports related to an illness on board our ship,” a Norwegian Cruise Line spokeswoman said in a statement to AAP. “There is absolutely no truth to this. The vessel remains in operation, and all guests onboard are in good health.”
Australia currently has 15 cases of coronavirus. There are also four Aussies among the 65 newly-confirmed cases aboard the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship which is docked at Yokohama in Japan.
