Good news for people planning to do their 2013/14 tax return using the ATO’s online e-tax.

From 1 July they’ll be accessible through myGov, the fast and easy way to access government services online.

The ATO’s Steve Vesperman says a myGov account provides a secure inbox where you can receive online letters, statements and other important information from the ATO and other government agencies including Medicare, Centrelink, Veterans’ Affairs, eHealth records, the new National Disability Insurance Scheme and Child Support.

“You’ll be able to update personal information, keep track of your superannuation, pay any tax debts and keep tabs on the processing of your tax return.

“A myGov account gives you access to information you need from other government agencies using a single log-on, making it even easier to complete and lodge your return.

“Most importantly, you can be confident that your personal information and records are secure.”

Steve says creating a myGov account is very simple.

“Go to my.gov.au, accept the terms and conditions, provide your contact details, create a password and provide three questions and answers that can verify your identity if you forget your password.”

“People are already saving time and hassles when dealing with the government online so, give it a go.”

Also, just a reminder: if you still need to lodge your 2013 tax return, you can use and download e-tax 2013 until 31 May 2014 at e-tax

  • Mygov is the most incompetent program I have come across in 40 years of computing.
It cannot even accept myself as my husband & I use the same email so have to make a one off stupid email that I will never use again.
If this a reflection of our government god help us.

  • I have really slow internet connectivity & tried to use centerlink online to update my estimated 14-15 income but the page didn’t load correctly. There was no refresh button as it opened a new secure window so I was only able to close it & try again. It was quicker for me to call them & speak to a person than to wait for technology to improve. To some this my be good but for others who can’t afford internet each month or are in a poor internet coverage location it’s useless. Don’t think I’ll be signing up for an account anytime soon.
