A teenage boy will face court next month after allegedly pricking a group of students with a needle at a western Sydney high school.

The 14-year-old was arrested by police at a home in Glendenning on Thursday night and charged with five counts of assault, reports 9 news.

He is accused of pricking eight students – all about 14 years old – in their thighs, limbs and hands in what police initially believed was a “prank gone wrong”.

The teenage victims were taken to a nearby medical centre and a hospital for urgent blood tests, and now face an anxious wait for the results.

The puncture wounds sustained by the children were “minimal” and the risks of infection low, NSW Ambulance Acting Inspector Joe Ibrahim said on Thursday.

But there are unconfirmed reports the needle had been found by the student at a bus stop – meaning it may not be clean.

The boy was granted bail and will appear at a children’s court on November 6.

  • Why the hell would he even pick up a syringe he found? At 14 I was smart enough to never go near a used syringe. To then think it is funny to jab people with it…this kid is an idiot.

  • What a stupid thing to do. At age 14 wouldn’t you think he would know better? So many diseases to be picked up by a used syringe

  • I am so glad this teen was charged, it was such a dangerous action despite the motive. These families now have to worry till they get their results and whilst the needle may not have been infected initially with every person jabbed worsened the odds for the next person. Such a traumatic event for many involved. It can limit careers, life span and many other aspects if others are found to be infected.

  • Really terrible. How can someone think about doing this?? And being a needle found in the street, it comes with so many risks. Let’s hope all the tests will turn out negative.
