Hello!

I wouldn’t hold your breath as Aldi’s special buys don’t seem to be appearing on the shelves on time but the discount retailer has suggested that it is bringing back its Aldi Thermomix look-a-like and we couldn’t be more excited.

We’re iso-baking up a storm these days so I really need some thermo-cooking help – but I just can’t justify spending over 2-grand on the real thing. I missed out the last time Aldi brought out its imitation Thermomix so I’m going to be there bright and early to see if I can snag a kitchen helper for myself.

This ‘ultimate kitchen machine’ is called the Mistral Thermo Cooker and is supposedly on sale at Aldi on Saturday 18 April for the crazy price of only $299.

But before all the Thermomix lovers start a lynch mob, let me emphasise that no, this is NOT the authentic Thermomix. But let’s get real – a Thermomix TM6 will set you back the princely sum of $2,269. So you could actually buy 7 and a half of Aldi’s machines for the same price.

What Does A Thermo Cooker Do?

So why do you need another kitchen appliance in your life? Well, a thermo cooker is an amazing all-in-one machine that actually replaces a number of appliances that are taking up valuable bench space. The Aldi machine boasts that it can: “chop, mince, cook, boil, beat, knead, blend, stew, stir, steam, grate, saute, mix, melt, mill, whip and even crush ice and grind nuts.” Woah…that means if it all goes to plan, you can pretty much toss your food processor, mixer, steamer and grater in the bin.

According to Aldi, it comes with the following:

  • 2.2-litre stainless steel bowl
  • Integrated scale function
  • Reverse Function
  • 10-speed mixing
  • 1000W heating power
  • 800W motor
  • Double safety lock
  • 3-year warranty
  • Includes chopping blade, mixing tool and recipe book

In addition, the steamer basket is also included.

In the past Big W have also sold the Mistral Thermo Cooker.

Aldi has also in the past sold thermo cooker machines, under the brand name of Kuchef. However, this machine had some major issues and even warranted a nation-wide recall for potential scalding. So Aldi have changed brands to Mistral instead.

Reviews

There are not many reviews about this particular appliance but the ones that are available are very positive. The main outtake is that while the Aldi Thermo Cooker may not be in the same calibre of quality fastidiousness as the Thermomix, it certainly does a really good job.

In addition, comments about the Mistral Thermo Cooker received lots of accolades from enthusiastic members of a discount addicts facebook group.

One comment read: “I still have my mistral been going strong for 3.5yrs.”

While another enthused: “3 year warranty is good! Better than thermomix!”

“I own this (Aldi version of Thermomix) and it is awesome!,” read another comment.

Some did caution that while it’s a great alternative to the ‘real deal’, it is not as a good as a Thermomix:

“Great for the price. Excellent way to suss out of the thermie life is for you.
But as one who did four years of an aldi cooker and then upgraded to a thermie……. there is no comparison. Thermie is the absolute tits!!!”

I reckon that this is a GREAT BUY and my prediction is that they’re going to fly off the shelves. So get ready to grab your Thermo Cooker before they sell out (if they do happen to actually make an appearance)!

BONUS TIP: Aldi’s special buys on the same day, also includes a dishwasher for only $349.

  • I have a different brand and they are pretty awesome.

  • This would be very useful to me. I didn’t realise how much it can actually do so I will have to be on the lookout next time they release them.

  • I can’t see that I would get the use out of one

  • I would love one of these but $299 is still a big investment for something I am not sure I actually need.

  • Doubt I would buy one of these – probably too contented with the way I currently cook and I don’t have a time problem. I cook because I like to do so and to make culinary specials for our household that can and will be eaten

  • Not something that seems all the exciting! I personally wouldn’t purchase

  • I’m not sure what the benefits of this would be compared with all the other many appliances that I have in my home….

  • I’m not fussed with a Thermomix or a similar version. I’d need to be really invested in cooking… and I’m not!!!

  • Hope it’s a little safer than the last one

  • Not for now.

  • Not a special that interests me.

  • Decent price for what it does but not something I would use myself

  • I have high end food processor and stand mixer so I probably wouldnt use it but if I didnt Id consider it.
Thermie can be a useful tool for people with food allergies to make their own safe ingredients.

  • Sounds good but I won’t be interested in buying one

  • Seems ok but not something I would use.
