Protesters rally outside Brisbane hospital protecting a refugee baby.

Protesters calling on authorities to let Baby Asha stay in Australia instead of being returned to detention on Nauru will again rally outside a Brisbane hospital.

On Saturday hundreds of protesters gathered in the sweltering heat outside Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in support of doctors and staff who are refusing to release a baby in a bid to prevent her from being sent back to immigration detention on Nauru.  Earlier story.

The one-year-old girl, known as Asha, was flown to the hospital after being badly burnt when boiling water was accidentally spilled on her while in detention on the island.

The infant – who reportedly became the first baby born into detention in Australia to be transferred to Nauru – is now in a stable condition and her wounds have healed.

She has since recovered but doctors say they will keep her at the hospital until “a suitable home environment is identified”.

During the weekend rally protesters called for Immigration Minister Peter Dutton and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to show Asha some love on Valentine’s Day and let her stay in the country.

“Roses are red, violets are blue, people with hearts, don’t send babes to Nauru,” a crowd of more than 100, some holding heart-shaped signs, chanted outside the hospital.

  • Such a difficult issue, no body should have to stay in those places.

  • Its great that the doctors are doing all they can to protect a innocent child from a hard start in life. Although i do feel for her family who even though in detention would be missing their child.

  • I think they just need to stay in their own country, we are becoming overpopulated as it is

  • The plight of all refugees is sad. I still do not understand why it takes so long to identify whether a person is a refugee or not. They should not be left in limbo for so long.
