Hello!

Hello Kitty fans, book your plane tickets. The first ever Hello Kitty Grand Cafe has just opened in the US.

Hello Kitty cafes have come and gone around the world. The Hello Kitty themed diner in Sydney closed after less than a year and the Hello Kitty Cafe in Adelaide suddenly shut its doors in 2016. The first 24-hour one in Singapore airport is closing in Feb next year.

But it looks like business is booming in America for the famous Sanrio character. Besides the three mini-cafes in various locations, there are also two food trucks bringing cookies, cakes and merchandise to fans all over the country.

The First Hello Kitty Grand Cafe

And to top it all off, the first-ever permanent Hello Kitty Grand Cafe has recently opened in Irvine, California.

There are two sections to the cafe – the one side is a casual, quick-service theme that’s open to the public, while the second is a hidden pink oasis called The Bow Room, which takes reservations as well as accepting walk-ins, on a first-come, first-served basis, pending availability.

The casual space boasts unique artworks and grab-and-go seats for up to 12 customers, a menu offering mini donuts and character-themed cakes, flavoured teas, lemonade, smoothies and hot drinks as well as Hello Kitty-themed merchandise. The sweet treats include birthday cake, strawberry cake, chocolate chocolate cake, mama’s apple pie, hello kitty pocket pie, sugar cookies, 5 piece macaron set, donut macaron and lemon tart.

The Pink Bow Room

The private ‘Bow Room’ is decked out in all-pink decor and serves reservation-only tea services in the afternoons. The high-tea, priced at $55 per person, includes sandwiches, scones, fruit, Hello Kitty themed treats and tea with Hello Kitty-shaped sugar cubes.

Hello Kitty Cocktail

At night, the cocktail bar is open and you can grab a drink such as ‘You Had Me At Hello’ (cachaça, aperol, lemon, sherry and pineapple) and ‘Matcha Matcha’ (japanese whiskey, yogurt, matcha, yuzuare).

Fans have been flooding in since Hello Kitty Grand Cafe’s opening on September and reservations for afternoon tea and cocktail service (28 seats) have been completely booked 30 days out. So get in quick.

Hello Kitty Grand Cafe is at 670 Spectrum Center Dr, Irvine, CA 92618.

  • Pity they closed down in Australia – maybe they were ahead of their time here. Seems everybody goes out for coffee these days.

  • I wish we had this in Sydney… The one we had didn’t do well and was so small…. It’s just not the same as all the overseas hello kitty cafes.
