One of our lucky Inner Circle MoMs took her kids to see the magical The Greatest Magic Show, part of the Melbourne Magic Festival 2019

Featuring Sam Hume and Justin Williams, The Great Magic Show was a child’s delight.

With a mixture of both magic and comedy, there was laughter for all, parent and children. From the moment, the Ringmaster walked on stage, the children were completely captivated.  The children were either staring intently trying to see how the trick happens or in hysterical laughter at the comedy antics taking place.

Whilst for adults the shows ‘magic’ wasn’t something we hadn’t seen before, it was so entertaining especially with the constant touch of comedy to ‘camouflage’ the moment when things didn’t quite go to plan.

The Greatest Magic show was held at the Melba Spiegeltent Hub, in Collingwood. It is a beautiful wooden mirrored tent, inviting and warm. I loved the venue, as it wasn’t too large and enabled all, children and adults, to see and be involved in the show.

The show was engaging and interactive with the audience and had all the kids in involved, either by yelling out ‘abracadabra’ with the wands they were given on entry, laughing at the things going wrong for the magic duo or calling out answers. With volunteers being sought from the audience, a sea of little hand would pop up to the choir of ‘pick me, me, me’.  Those who were selected were cheered on by the rest of the kids in the audience.

What show wouldn’t be complete and truly set the kids into amusement than the dropping of two cheeky words, ‘fart’ and ‘snot’. Side-splitting laughter could be definitely heard from outside the venue.

Some great one-liners were definitely winning the kids over, such as ‘stop acting like children’. The kids just broke into uncontrollable giggles. Such a delight as a parent to hear the infectious laughs rolling through the crowd. You couldn’t not laugh yourself.

The trick that truly captured the audience and had the kids absolutely screaming and being involved was when the Ringmaster had an extremely large pair of undies that just didn’t seem to disappear.

Spellbound they were when the rabbit magically cannoned into the box. Still scratching my head on how it happened.

Mouth opening when Justin climbed up onto multiple chairs stacked high to then juggle. Breaths were held in the audience waiting to see if he could do it. Screams of glee were heard when he mastered it without any mishaps.

My favourite part was the key message to the kids. With a child being selected from the audience and given the secret to magic, in her hand she held a folded sheet of paper, which would later show the word BELIEVE.   With magician Sam Hume sitting on the stage, with the selected child from the audience, he magically making the piece paper turn into confetti, and it’s blown over the audience. He tells the kids that in order to achieve your dreams you must always believe in yourself, and never give up.  As a parent, I loved that this message was relayed to the children.

I loved that Justin, Sam and the Ringmaster invited the kids to come and see them outside after the show to say hello and have a photo.

A fun light-hearted laughter-filled afternoon for the family.
