Cleaning experts have revealed how often you should wash everything from your pillow cases to make-up brushes and computer keyboard, and the answers might shock you.

The cleaning experts at Mattress Online say you should wash your pillow cases every other DAY… and clean your make-up brushes and keyboard every week.

Your make-up brush should be washed once a week – using a cleanser or shampoo.

Nasty bacteria called streptococcus can live in the bristles – causing a series of illnesses such as scarlet fever, impetigo and strep throat if it’s not cleaned regularly.

While your pillowcases should be washed every other day, and your mattress hoovered once a fortnight.

Your keyboard should be cleaned once a week, to stop the spread of germs, and your face washer should be washed after EVERY use.

  • Great list, if I followed it I wouldn’t have time for anything else!

  • Oh wow… some of these are really interesting. Particularly teddies in the freezer!

  • Some of these ideas are really over the top. No wonder people get so sick nowadays, they are too clean. Our family rarely get sick and when the children went to school, picked up illnesses from others. Washing hands after the bathroom and before eating is always the best policy.

  • Holy smoke. I’m not cleaning nearly enough. I’m totally wiped out just from reading this. Can’t even contemplate the books as I have over a thousand of them on display. That’s going to take me ages. By the time I’ve done them I’ll probably have to start all over again. Good to know about some of the other things that I would never have thought of. Thanks

  • I am exhausted just reading this, will have to set up a calendar and try to do a bit more, but how do you fit all this cleaning into your life? Wow by the time to do your normal cleaning up every day in the kitchen and bathroom, great for those who can afford to pay a housekeeper, will keep them busy.

  • Sorry yes my house is clean but not as clean as the notes above. Some things are common sense with cleaning.

  • Jeez Louise…. I think this is a bit over the top…..

Just imagine doing all this plus entertain the baby, cook food from scratch, run errands, do swimming lessons, self-care myself, be there for friends & maintain a career…… yeah, nah…. Not for me.

  • I would have to hire a cleaner to do all that so then would get the time to go to the hospital?

  • HaHaHa… I now know why we have all these new ultra modern appliances and the reason behind all this new technology. Its so I can do all this cleaning in the little to no time I have on a day to day basis. I think I will hire a cleaning lady or go live like the homeless person who doesn’t bother to read this rubbish, but gets by just fine.

  • If I were to follow all these guidelines, I’d spend my whole life just cleaning!! I’ll stick to my tried and trusted ways which are both manageable and completely hygienic!

  • I change my bed sheets and pillows once a week, empty vacuum cleaner every time it’s used and wipe counters down every day. There is no way I could air my books as I have a lot of them. Oh how did my family and I survive all these years. Some I agree with but some are just ridiculous
