Hello!

Today all the mums in the MoM office have the beautiful Kate Winslet on the pedestal we have in the centre of the room!

You see today we saw a beautifully makeup free Kate; looking squarely into the camera and clearly very comfortable in her own skin.

We saw that at 39, Kate Winslet is not wrinkle-free, her skin tone is not that of a 6 month old and her eyelashes are not the length we all imagine they must be.

In truth, she looked just like many of the mums we see at the playground, in the mall and at school drop off …

the message kate winslet sends to her daughters our daughters and women everywhere_make up free photo

We love that she captioned the image by saying …

“I know I am chubby, I have big feet, and have bad hair days,” she wrote underneath the image. “When I grew up and even now sometimes, I hardly hear any positive reinforcement about body image from any female. I mostly hear negatives. But I know most of the negatives comes from the people who are busy rejoicing other people’ insults by liking demeaning post on Facebook when in reality they don’t even like themselves.

“Today, I want to put up a zero makeup photo. I know I have wrinkles on my skin but today I want you to see beyond that. I want to embrace the real me and I want you to embrace who you are, the way you are, and love yourself just the way you are.

“Share the message everywhere and let it reach the haters and let them know that you don’t give a damn about the negatives and you chose not to be a victim to those bullies who make fun of others based on appearances, race, gender, etc. And also share if you love yourself the way you are and don’t want to change anything about it. People should appreciate you, the real you”.

We also love that in posting this photo, she has encouraged women to post makeup free photos of themselves in the comments on this post.

Baring it all and feeling good about it (some women saying it was the first time they had EVER posted a makeup free photo – anywhere)!

Her beauty goes much deeper clearly.  Her mantra is one of positive body image, positive self image and positive self worth.

All beautiful messaging for her daughter (her sons too for that matter), our children and of course, us.

Every woman, man and child has so much more worth than a photo can every convey and we love the fact that Kate Winslet is using her social ‘voice’ to get the message out.

It’s also not a one-off; our gallery below shows that Kate’s social feeds are filled with beautifully positive messages that we can all embrace and include in our ‘Little Book of how to feel good an be a good role model for our children” …

  • Good for her.
I am happy with the person I am. I am kind, understanding and people often turn to me when they need someone to talk to. I always feel so honoured that people trust me with their feelings.
But when we move to body image…. not so happy. Yes facially I am doing well. Im in my late 50’s now and hardly a wrinkle to be seen. Just the other day a work mate asked me if I had celebrated my 50th yet :D …. but my body… well ive had 3 children and my stomach muscles gave out on me and I have excess skin that just hangs there. The Doctor has said that no amount of exercise will alter that and I would have to have a major surgery and be cut from hip to hip and it would cost thousands of dollars. I hate how I look but at the same time I cant afford to have the surgery. Either money wise or the physical cost. There is no way I can ever be comfortbale with how my body looks.

  • wow I just cannot believe that that is Kate Winslet, I’m sure in my head she was still in Titanic and at a very young age lol. Good on her and her pride in her own image, Im a big non Make-up wearer unless its a special occasion and even then it may be a kids birthday party, then i may wear some face paint….as a bunny or cat lol

  • I constantly try & send my daughter positive body image vibes. Although I’m not happy with my weight etc I don’t want to sense that nor do I want her to have body shame issues growing. In saying that I need to practice what I preach!

  • She is awesome. That’s a real role model for women and kids. I put make up on since I was 16 years old and I believe I was hidding myself behind this mask. one day I decided to just not were much make up and I realised I felt better being more natural and true to myself. I was afraid people wouldn’t like it but it was all the contrary and it changed the opinion I had of myself. Great initiative from Kate!!!
