Strangers rush to save little boys birthday celebrations.

Rachelle Briannan, from Melbourne, logged on to her Facebook mother’s group Midnight Mums and messaged them in tears, explaining she had invited 12 children to her son Taenon’s fourth birthday celebration at a local restaurant… and all of their parents had either cancelled or never responded.

Her message touched their hearts and within minutes, 25 mums and dads from across Melbourne gathered their children and drove to a McDonald’s restaurant to help the little boy celebrate his birthday.

‘So I’m sitting in my room quietly crying. 12 kids were invited to my sons party today, and an hour before every one of them cancels or just doesn’t reply to my msgs [sic],’ Ms Briannan wrote on Facebook.

‘My son just turned 4 and this is the first time he’s really understood the whole party with friends thing. My heart is literally broken for him!! I’m so hurt and angry [sic].

‘What the hell can I do to make this up to him? Seriously. Like I made him this huge superhero cake and there’s going to be no one to even sing happy birthday to him.’

Veronica’s Pantry from Diamond Creek donated a bunch of number 4 helium balloons and the local Nillumbik SES turned up and invited the children to explore their trucks.

The Midnight Mums community rallied together online with hundreds of birthday wishes for Taenon flooding our newsfeeds and touching the hearts of our members with this feel good story right across Australia and beyond ‪#‎midnightmums‬ ‪#‎thepowerofsocialmedia‬ ‪#‎happybirthdaytaenon‬ ‪#‎mumssupportingmums‬

Blogger Constance Hall was equally impressed posting on her own page.

The power of social media wins again! How awesome are these people.

  • Thats so lovely. I know that a similar thing happened to a little boy in BUndaberg, and the community pulled together and have him a large party in the park.

  • That’s wonderful! So good to read a positive about social media after so many negatives. Why, I wonder, did all 12 of the original invites ditch at the last minute?!?! I can fully comprehend this mums anguish

  • I am amazed at how often this seems to happen. I’ve had one child/family who didn’t respond to an invite, or follow up messages, and they’ve never been invited again. For me, if there’s any prospect f pulling out (eg family illness), then I will warn the host when we accept. Not that I have ever had to pull out, but we’ve had a couple of close calls.

  • So heartening to hear things worked out for her. She will now know who NOT to invite next time! I have found that at least 2 people who reply yes cancel on the day every birthday. About 1/2 I have to chase for a reply. Common courtesy and manners should be taught to our kids, but when parents act like this, what chance to these kids have?

So wonderful to hear about a positive response like this.

  • what a horrible feeling for this mum. To invite 12 people and some dont even bother to take the time to respond is just plain rude. To the ones that cancelled I hope there was a really good reason!

Well done to everyone else who rallied around this little boy to celebrate his birthday -

  • I don’t understand why all of the 12 invited children didn’t turn up. Makes me a little suspicious as to whether this was all made up for the attention.

    • I know of a situation where some failed to respond and didn’t reply to ? texts either. One accepted and the Mother left 2 other children there too, dropped them off at the gate, one of them a small toddler – didn’t even have the courtesy to ask to do so. It was a 7 year old’s birthday party and there weren’t any other toddlers there. The host tried to contact the Mother but she had switched her phone off.

  • How devastating for the Mother! How awful some people can be to cancel or not respond. We all understand that things pop up last minute but seriously? 12 of them?

It is so great to hear that the Community and people from other Communities made such an effore for the little 4 year old!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAENON!!!
