Hello!

Before outlaying potentially THOUSANDS of dollars on a new appliance which the manufacturer guarantees a ten year lifetime warranty on – here’s what I seriously recommend you do…

CALL the company’s Customer Support number, and run a ‘test’ fault with them!

Choose the model you plan on purchasing, and describe a fault – ANY possible fault, from leaks to an unusual sound the machine is making, to something even more complex- the possibilities are ENDLESS, use your imagination!

At this point you’re probably stressing out wondering about WHAT exactly you are going to do if they ask you to perform any tasks on the machine itself- don’t panic! Just politely let them know that you are out and you will have to call them back when you return home.

The purpose of the phone call is simply to assess how helpful the company’s after sales service is. If they genuinely care about you once they’ve got your business. Or whether they give you the runaround.

If you’re daring enough you could even request a call back to see whether they actually do follow through- or whether you’re expected to chase them up. And remember if they do call you back, and it’s to follow through with the ‘button sequence’ you could always apologetically let them know that you are out again…

Valuable Insight Before You Buy

I know some of you will be reading this and rolling your eyes thinking about what a MASSIVE waste of company time this would be if everyone did it. But you know what? You worked pretty darn hard to be able to afford that appliance, so why not make absolutely certain that you will be looked after should something go wrong!

Just imagine finding out that the company has a 4-6 week waiting timeframe should your appliance need to be repaired or replaced for any reason. If you’ve got little ones and you suddenly are out of a dishwasher or washing machine that could be an EXTREMELY LONG waiting time- and just imagine if it’s something as vital as your refrigerator!

This will establish some really important fundamental information- when things go wrong you want to know that you’re in good hands, or at least be prepared for whichever overseas call centre you are directed to so you can start learning their language before having your call passed around to ten different employees and wishing you had an interpreter to help.

This five minute phone call could save you five weeks worth of waiting time depending on the company’s after sales service should something ever go wrong, and isn’t it always nice to be prepared- because you never know what the future holds.

  • That idea is gold. I would hope I would have the nerve to pull it off if I’m purchasing anything big in the future. Not sure if I’d be brave enough but heck I’d have to do it if something went wrong I suppose.

  • This is a great idea, I would never have thought to do this. I just assume any warranty has to be adhered to, but there are companies that give you the run around as opposed to ones who deal with things promptly and properly. I know when I had a fault with my new PC years ago, they sent out a repair man within a week to fix the part. My computer wasn’t unusable though. That was the online company Dell.

  • I am a pain in the bum and would annoy the crap out of any company to follow through with their promises.

  • Nup. Can’t be bothered. More than happy to get ACCC on to someone if they aren’t honoring warranties.

  • Definitely a good idea it’s tough work when they refuse a warranty claim because they can’t be bothered.

  • Sometimes a Call Centre staff member will tell you they are in Sydney and they overseas.

  • A good idea, another idea is to look up a Facebook page for that particular company/brand and ask other people who have these appliances if they have ever had to deal with them for complaints or warrantees. I find reading others reviews or asking people these questions a great way to find out if you want to buy an appliance through a certain company
