Meet the Siamese twins born in India, sharing a face.

The Daily Mail reports, the babies each had their own heart, arms and legs. They weighed 2lbs 6oz and were born at a hospital in eastern India.

Sadly, doctors confirmed they only lived for six minutes.

Despite knowing they were conjoined, medics were astonished by their appearance when they delivered the babies by a Caesarean section.

Dr Kirtan Vyas, 30, an assistant professor in the gynaecology ward of the hospital who operated on the mother, said medics knew they were unlikely to survive.

‘We were somewhat prepared for the death of the babies as the brain was fused and surgery to separate the brain is impossible,’ he said.

‘We had informed the family in advance of the severe complications.’

‘This hospital has been going for 140 years and there’s only been around three to four cases of conjoined twins.

‘But this case of conjoined twins was an even more shocking one. The babies were extremely rare looking.’

The mother, who has chosen to remain anonymous, had a smooth pregnancy until her first ultrasound at seven months. She had not been in earlier for any check ups, which sadly due to poverty is very common.

  • How heartbreaking. The pain of dealing with the loss of not one but two.
Two little angels that will always be together.

  • How devastating for the parents to have their children treated as freaks.

  • Sadly many families in some countries also probably live too far away from a Dr. or hospital and don’t go unless they are really sick. Poverty makes the situation so much more dangerous. In some third world countries a lot of Mums don’t go to hospital at all. Sadly in this case it has resulted in a double tragedy.

  • I’m not comfortable seeing test picture and reading this article. A mother has lost her babies and here they are, half way round the world, with strangers gawking at them. Such a sad situation, I hope they’ve found peace

  • This is so sad. I have just read the article on the conjoined twins in Thailand. They can be separated but I think this conjoined twins in India; they could never have been able to separate them.

  • They lived just 6 minutes… :-( It must have been terrible for the mother to find out so late during the pregnancy. :-(

  • Surely basic medical care including ultrasounds should be made available in all countries.

  • Very sad that due to poverty and third world conditions this mother coukdbt get an ultrasound until 7 months then be given such heart wrenching news. Cases like this really highlight how lucky we are in Australia and what fantastic neonatal care is available.May they rest in peace.

  • Surely we can help out 3rd world countries with ultrasounds so they can check the health of unborn babies earlier than this so if need be options can be offered
