The Light Phone 2 is the perfect “stupid” phone in a world ruled by smartphones.

The original Light Phone, created three years ago, only allowed the user to make calls. This new, version of Light Phone 2, which is still-in-development, debuts in April 2019 but can be preordered for as low as $250, lets users do just two simple things: they can call and they can text.

There’s no app store, meaning no opportunity to download Facebook or Snapchat. There’s no chance your kid will be playing video games or watching some YouTube clip, shares Popsugar.

While this new model wasn’t created explicitly for kids, it’s the perfect option for the younger demographic, and parents will certainly be keen to hear more about this “stupid” phone that could be a big game changer in the world of social media and online bullying.

  • Perfect functions for the elderly too

  • I think it is too pricey for its limited capabilities.

  • Sure is a good beginners phone.

  • I absolutely love the idea of this phone but unfortunately don’t know of too many parents that would buy it for their child. Parents are pressured by their kids who want to be the same as everyone else. It is just terrible. My son is now nearly 17 but he had a dumb phone for as long as we could hold out. He now has an iPhone and it is problematic on so many levels. You can argue we are the responsible parents, and we are to blame, however we are fighting against a society where our son has always been the odd one out. He is surrounded by family and friends’ kids who have smart phones as young as 12 and he always feels left out. We did finally succumb to the pressure of it all. I was devastated.

  • That’s MY kind of phone, I call my phone a dumb phone because I don’t have apps etc on it. I only use if for calls or SMS’s!

  • Great idea but for $250??? What is the difference between this and the sort of phones that were common 5 years ago? I bought a non-smart phone for $20 from the Vodafone shop back then.

  • This sounds perfect for kids who just need a phone for security.

  • Best phone ever for kids to have I reckon. They only need it for phone calls and texts and emergencies, keep them off the net and social media for as long as possible
