Hello!

It’s never easy to find your perfect match, especially when you’re a single mum. So to help you out, we’ve put together a list of the leading dating websites and apps in Australia. Give it a try – you’ve certainly got nothing to lose. You may even find the love of your life.

Online dating sites and apps are probably the most realistic way for single mums and dads to meet new people. When you’ve got kids at home, it’s not always easy to head out to the pub for a chance meeting of like minds. Online dating can be done anytime and anywhere (even in your PJs when the kids have gone to bed) so it’s very suitable for a busy lifestyle.

Many of these online dating apps and websites are free to register and view your matches but many do require payment to interact with your matches in more detail.

Check out our favourite Australian online dating sites and get ready to find love.

1. eHarmony

eHarmony consistently pops up as one of the most popular dating websites in Australia. They have a sophisticated algorithm that focuses on finding compatible matches. When you sign-up, you are prompted to create a free profile and can even have a look at your matches. However, you would need to pay the monthly membership fee if you are serious about finding a serious relationship.

2. Tinder

Tinder has pretty much reached a cult status. Most people know how it works – swipe right if you’re keen ; swipe left if you’re not. And if you both swipe right, you’re a match and can start a chat. Tinder has got a bit of a reputation for ‘hook-ups’ and one night stands, as the focus is so much on the physical side of things. Because of this, the app tends to be more popular with the younger lot. However, don’t dismiss it completely – it’s not always a bad thing to start with physical attraction and then build from there.

3. Zoosk

Zoosk is another online dating app that is gathering momentum. Most members tend to sign up if they’re looking for a more serious relationship so this is a good option if you’re not interested in hook-ups. The app is supported by an advanced match-making algorithm so you’ve got a good chance of finding a like-minded mate.
You can join for free but will need to buy coins to interact further with other singles.

4. Plenty of Fish

Plenty of Fish (POF) is one of the original free dating apps. We love that you can communicate with your matches without paying, however there are some features that are charged for. Essentially, the app is a bit of a mixture between Tinder and eHarmony – with less of an emphasis on profiling but not as ‘shallow’ as Tinder.

5. RSVP

RSVP is a well-known dating website in Australia, with over 2-million members and many people have had success finding love using the website. You can register for free but if you would like to make contact with potential matches, you will need to buy ‘stamps’ – which is essentially the RSVP dating currency.
It’s definitely worthwhile joining up and checking out your matches.

6. Hukup

As its name implies, Hukup is an online app that caters essentially for ‘hook-ups’. You can pick the perfect criteria for your potential mate and then choose from your potential matches. The chances are though, that the members of this app aren’t in it for the long-term so use at your own risk.

7. Elite Singles

Elite Singles is aimed at the more professional Aussie and the majority of its members have university degrees. Members are matched based on certain criteria – such as location, personality and what you are looking for in a relationship. It’s quite a pricy dating app but if you lay out the cash, there’s a pretty good chance that you’ll find a eligible mate.

8. Swindr

Swindr is a little different as it offers an opportunity for alternative lifestyle dating. Couples who are keen to ‘spice up’ their relationship with some swinging will find potential partners with Swindr.

9. Just Senior Singles

Just Senior Singles is a dating website for the over 50’s. It’s a classic, easy to navigate and a bit old fashioned dating website. You can register for free but will need to pay for additional features. We think this is a fantastic option if you can’t be bothered with the more techno-hook-up apps like Tinder.

10. Bumble

Bumble is another-Tinder like dating app spin-off. It’s also focused on the quick ‘n easy hook-up, except the big difference is that women make the first move and men then have 24-hours to respond. Bumble also has ‘find-a-friend’ and networking functionality too. The design and mechanics of the app is more geared towards a younger demographic but there’s no harm in taking a punt. The app is free to download but you will need to pay a subscription if you want to use the app more seriously.

Warning

Before you embark on your online journey to find love, just be aware that there are fake profiles and tricksters out there. So never give out your address, bank details or personal information until you are confident that you are in touch with a ‘real’ person.

  • I think I would prefer meeting someone naturally than over an app.
All this online stuff freaks me out as a lot of people are weirdos and fakes.

  • I’ve never used a dating app. I was 21 before I had my first serious relationship, with not much at all before that. My mum was in her mid thirties when she married my dad. I would never use a dating app, there have been too many horrible, disastrous stories about hook ups thru these apps

  • No. I have no experience with online dating apps.

  • I know people who have met on Tinder and are still together years later. I have tried it in the past and trying to sift through hundreds of “creeps” put me off so I gave up. Now I am happy to be single and focus on my kids and myself. Romantic love would be a bonus but not necessary.

  • I wouldn’t feel great about using them, but they work for so many people. What works for one doesn’t for another, so no judgement here!

  • It is very difficult as a single mother to find a kind hearted soul in a potential partner.

  • I just cannot imagine meeting anyone on a dating website, how can you trust them? How do you know they are genuine? You hear of so many stories of people pretending to be someone else too.
