Let’s be honest about life balance straight away. As much as we all try to master it, just as we think we have it, something changes and we’re back on the quest to put everything into balance again. It’s a constant process of refining, redefining and rediscovery.

Even for us women who are MASTERS at multi-tasking, we still push our limits and fit in more and more into our days. As mums, we regularly juggle two, three, four or more things at once, consistently. From the time we open our eyes til the time we close them, we are consistently putting our natural multi-tasking talent to work. I bet you’ve already exercised your exceptional skills numerous times today and that was before breakfast, right?!!!

And the truth of it is this: regardless of whether you have life balance or not, there WILL be times when you’re out of balance, a little stressed, feeling lost, overwhelmed, not quite yourself, lonely, empty, down, isolated and basically not feeling like you have it all together. And ladies, we ALL feel that way from time to time. When you throw running a business into the mix, then you’ve got even more pressure, emotion and more to consider when surviving the daily juggle.

Weariness at this point is the biggest problem; when you’re too tired to think, let alone process your thoughts and emotions. If you pick up on it then and there, you can prevent the impending meltdown by amping up your vitamins, having something delicious for dinner and getting yourself off to bed early for a big, big sleep. Normally this will help you feel like a million dollars. But when you ignore those feelings, inevitably you’ll hit the wall, lose your bundle and head full steam ahead into a good old-fashioned meltdown and fail around in an emotional whirlpool, hoping for a friendly hand to reach in and rescue you in the form of some advice or a compassionate ear. But those around you are used to seeing a cool, calm, collected and nurturing women. So instead of helping, they freak out and head for the hills until the dust settles.

“I’ve learnt how to read my signs and help myself. I’ve learnt that the best way to avoid stress, meltdowns or bizarre and irrational feelings I can’t explain, is to simply listen to my body and my deeper self, so I can tap into what it is I need to regain my balance again.” Rachael Bermingham

Being overwhelmed is probably the easiest problem to solve, when it comes to balancing. It’s all about getting more organised. The first thing I do is re-design my schedule, and the second thing I do is de-clutter my home and office. Then I feel like I am less overwhelmed, more organised, clearer and focused.

Being organised didn’t come naturally to me. I thought I was quite organised but I wasn’t, and I didn’t know that until I really learnt about how to use my time more effectively. What a rude shock I received, to see how much of valuable time I had been wasting oh, what an unbelievable relief to see how I could fit it all in without driving myself into the ground anymore – BLISS!!!

So to begin getting life into some sort of balance, you’ll need to get yourself a schedule or diary with a full page per day.

Then you will need to insert all the activities you need to do each week into the diary based on priorities.

So for example, my first priority is my boys so everything to do with them goes into the schedule first, then there comes me, so my exercise etc goes in, then business which is when I schedule all my speaking, events and mentoring, then comes family, friends, then anything else such as mowing, cleaning etc. It’s totally balanced and I get to do everything I want each week with careful planning.  Even though it’s a little tricky to get used to you will LOVE being so focused and be able to fit in much more with far less stress!

Give it a month so you can find your balance then you’ll settle into a fantastic system that will truly serve you in much better ways!
