Hello!

Having already taken Melbourne and Brisbane by (sugar) storm, this pop-up candy museum is about to make Sydney a little sweeter.

Interactive Candy museum, Sugar Republic, will be launching in Sydney next February and it’s fair to say we’re just a little excited about it. Featuring fourteen dessert rooms with a variety of installations, a sweet themed cafe, and an epic candy store, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a hit.

Fun For All Ages

The Melbourne and Brisbane museums set the bar high, with a doughnut igloo, fairy floss swing, a human sized gumball machine and, perhaps best of all, an adult sized pink ball pit.

Set to take over the entire sixth floor in the Myer Sydney store, the design for the museum is still under wraps but the creative director behind the show, Allison Jones, reassured Broadsheet that it would be worth waiting for. “I’ve long dreamed of opening a beautiful candy store, and I also love pop art and retro design,” she said. “When I started thinking about launching an immersive pop-up, I knew that sugar and sweets was the perfect theme as it’s visual and everybody has positive memories of eating candy.”

We can only hope the Sydney museum will offer up some of its own sweet surprises!

Plenty Of Sweet Snacks

Few things in life are free, but the museum offers free sweet snacks throughout the exhibition. The Melbourne and Brisbane exhibitions had complimentary soft serve ice-cream in one room of the installation and fairy floss on the walls in another. If all else fails, the cafe will sell banana splits and candy milkshakes or you can try the retro sweet shop selling every lolly you could ever imagine. No one will be getting much sleep after all that sugar!

The Sugar Republic will run from February 2019 to May 2019 at Myer Sydney. Tickets are around $30-$40 per person depending on the time of day. Entry for children under 2 is free.

  • Doubt I would go to it – I certainly haven’t been to the Melbourne one. I’m not a sugar fan and brought my children to respect it too.

  • $30-$40 for a ticket …can I possibly eat that much free sweet stuff to cover the entry ticket …well I would sure give it a darn good try. OK I wouldn’t sleep that night and probably the next as well due to a sugar over load but life is sweet.
