Hello!

A home baker has given us the giggles when she shared her hilarious unicorn cake fail when she attempted to recreate the Coles unicorn cake.

Making a Unicorn cake can’t be too difficult surely! Coles seems to manage to bake perfect fondant-covered cakes featuring the mystical animal horn and ears, so it’s worth giving this a go at home.

Laura Jayne, a keen home-baker from Perth decided to copy the Coles’ $25 Unicorn cake and attempt to make her very own version.

The results, which she shared on a Facebook group, had us in stitches.

Nailed It!

“We were pretty sure we could buy a packet mix from Coles and replicate the unicorn cake. I personally think the resemblance is uncanny,” Laura wrote.

The photo showed a mess of a cake featuring melty pink icing on a vanilla base, with pieces of chocolate acting as the ears and the horn.

“Nailed it!” read one of the comments.

Unicorn Cake Fails

The unicorn cake is a popular one that home-bakers try and recreate in their own kitchen. Some are impressive, but more often than not, the result is a hot mess.

A little while ago, we shared a picture of an ‘evil’ Unicorn cake, that had gone very wrong.

‘Looks like an evil cat,’ one commenter said, ‘but it will taste great I’m sure!’

While another was quite forthright: ‘This is what nightmares are made of.’

  • Good on her for giving it a go. Cake making is not my greatest strength so I will continue to buy my coles cakes and lollies to decorate ???????? Kids haven’t complained yet for my lack of cake baking skills hehe

  • I’ve never tried the Unicorn cake but I have made a few other cakes over the years. The best one that comes to mind was the ghetto blaster with all the attachments. I’ve also made a UFO, a dolls bed, football, hockey pitch with nets and a snake.

  • Ummm, no I haven’t. The Coles version was fantastic for the price. And those who attempted it, all in good fun, I’m sure their kids will love them.

  • I think most children can look beyond the looks of the cake ;)

  • Glad we can just buy these kind of cakes at a reasonable price instead of making them ourselves

  • So pleased I no longer have to make birthday cakes and even more pleased that when I asked my children what sort of birthday cake they would like they always picked profiteroles. Simple to do and fantastic to look at and eat.

    • Lol, I had to google what profiteroles are. Those are simple to make indeed and always present nice :)

  • When things start looking this bad – buy a giant bag of M&Ms are cover all of it. Simple and everyone will love it.

  • I never tried a unicorn cake at home because of the disaster it could be and I can relate to that mum totally.

  • I bet you it still tasted yummy, and the best thing it’s made out of love
