A couple on Victoria’s idyllic Phillip Island is offering some lucky person the opportunity to own their cafe for as little as $15.

Laura and Matt McNamara, who have owned Island Whole Foods since 2015, say they want someone to experience the same way of life they have been lucky enough to enjoy as they move on to travel across Australia in a campervan with their two young children.

“When we looked at selling the cafe the focus was more on what we can get out of it, how much money can we get. It’s hard to put a price tag on something that you have poured your heart into,” Ms McNamara told Yahoo7 News.

They have decided to create a raffle for their business valued at $187,000 – with an entry costing just $15.

“These guys are just crazy generous raffling off the cafe. I think it’s more than a cafe that place, it’s a whole island lifestyle these guys have created,” local Rhys Ulrich said.

The prize includes their whole business, $10,000 cash and $4,000 worth of stock.

The draw will take place on October 16 where one entrant’s life will change forever.

  • Do they think they are going to raise much money to donate to charities / community services?
It’s a pity the indoor area is so small. It is a very windy area an tourists tend to like more undercover protestion

  • What a novel and interesting idea. At least it will attract people who want to and/or have chosen to be involved and take on this lifestyle. Good luck!

  • A great idea, just not for me with the hours to be put into it. Hope whoever wins it has some fun.

  • It’s only generous if they sell less than 12,000 tickets otherwise it’s just good business.

    • They are also donating money to charity. You buy a bar of chocolate and get one free entry for $15, $2 goes straight to charity. I just bought two, but you don’t have to collect your chocolate to get the entry that is automatic when you pay for your ticket, the chocolate is a bonus.
