Hello!

A mother to two young children is completely over being trolled by mum shamers and invited her followers to share their best ‘mum shaming’ moments.

Mummy blogger, Caitlin Fladager, 23, recently shared a photo on her Instagram page of her two young kids Araian and Jack lounging on the couch, playing video games and eating McDonalds.

“Sometimes I make my kids awesome dinners and do activities with them. But some days I get them McDonald’s and let them watch a lot of TV (YouTube),” Caitlin shared with her 330,000 followers.

Caitlin is no stranger to critics and she regularly comes under fire from mum shamers for the way she brings up her children. Last year, she caused quite the furore when admitting to smoking cannabis after the kids were asleep, saying it was no different to winding down with a glass of wine.

When The Mum Shamers Have Their Claws Out

But she is clearly not alone! The blogger invited her followers to share their own example of “mum shaming”.

“I want to celebrate all we do for our kids, even the ‘frowned upon’ things,” she wrote.

“We’re all doing the best we can!”

Mum Shamer Moments

The post went wild, attracting almost 10,000 likes and over 240 comments from victims of mum shamers.

One mum admitted her ‘mum-shaming’ moment: “Co- sleeping and the fact that I continue to comfort breastfeed and my son who is almost 2.”

“Not having matching socks on my kids,” said another.

“I’m so glad I’m not the only one! There’s been days where I dont want to cook dinner or even play with them,” another mum chimed in.

Mummy Guilt!

Other mums shared her mum-shamer moments:

“I leave the TV on all day for back ground noise. I get told they watch too much but I’m pretty sure they play the whole day and watch it the odd time here and there”

“My kid is 3 and she knows a few curse words (oops) ..she watches tv and sometimes has way more junk than good food in a day..and I sleep in bed with her!”

“Video games. Everyone, even my own family, will shame me on it. They act like I let my son just play on it every waking moment, which is not the case.”

“Sometimes I give my kids cookies for breakfast. #notsorry”

And the list goes on. It seems that Caitlin most definitely hit the right nerve for many mothers. We all obviously – carry guilt for something we do and it’s a relief sometimes to have a non-judgemental place where you can share it. Without the mum shamers of course.

  • I neither drink nor smoke but im not going to judge others for doing so as long as they are not consuming so much they cant function. You still need to be able to bundle your kid into the car and drive them to the Doctors if needed.

  • Hmmm not sure about the smoking cannabis after the kids are in bed bit – considering it’s an illicit drug, I think there is a big difference between that and a glass of wine. However, there is nothing wrong with having a treat day with the kids and being a bit unhealthy and watching tv. It’s what you do the rest of the week that counts.

  • There is just way too much of this these days, and it’s not just on social media. I have had people say things while our shopping! Complete strangers commenting on the clothes my kids wear or if I’ve passed my phone over for five minutes to our eldest.
When did we decide this was okay?

  • Not a victim here because I don’t post on social media. Simple way to avoid

  • No, haven’t been a victim of shaming but I found when our daughter was very young, the TV was a wonderful free babysitter. I know plenty of other mums would agree but some would never admit to it…publicly :-) Shaming mums has become a national sport.

  • It’s so easy to judge from behind a screen. We are all doing our best. Let’s support each other more and always be kind.

  • I agree, we all have days when we are not 100% on the ball and need a break. Those are the days people don’t usually post to social media but it doesn’t mean we should be shamed for it. We are all human and all trying to get through any way we can

  • As mothers, we have enough of our own guilt and so not warrant that of others. It’s nobody’s business how you raise your kids or run your household.

  • We do what we have to do to cope.

  • Unfortunately it is the dark side (consequence) of sharing and social media. You cannot control what other’s think

  • I totally agree with the other comments, as mums we need to work together and support each other. Not put each over down. It is a dam hard job raising our very individual little mini me’s. As no 2 people are identical, neither should we be expected to parent in identical manners. Lets help each other out. As they say, it takes a village to raise a family.

  • I would rather support other mums , then troll them! Being a Mum is hard enough let alone those that think it’s easy

  • It;s the new black and I have no time for it

  • unfortunately its often the not great things we do that get focused on rather than all the fabulous things.
