A Melbourne mum is still in shock after discovering her baby boy tipped the scales at more than six kilograms.

Baby Brian Junior was born naturally at the Mercy Hospital on Tuesday morning, with staff amazed the supersized bundle weighed in at 6.06kg, or 13 pound, four ounces.

“I dreamed of a little fat baby,” mum Natashia Corrigan said. “I’ve always wanted a little fat baby and I’ve got a big one!”

Born at 40 weeks and five days, Brian Jnr could possibly be the heaviest baby born in Victoria.

“I think I was in a bit of shock because the birth was natural and I only had gas so I was still in a bit of shock just from that,” Natashia said.

Beautiful big boy.

What size were your newborns? Can you top Brian’s weight?

  • What a feat – especially to have the child naturally.

  • The average is about 7 lb. She must be very strong physically to carry a baby so large to full term.
The weight of this large baby would be the average total weight for twins

  • Wow, well done mum on the natural birth of your big boy !!
My eldest daughter was born 1lb 15oz (10wks early)), my son was 6lb 9oz, my other daughter 6lb 5oz and my youngest was 5lb 8oz (5wks early).
Luckily no big fat babies (or small fat babies) for me, I wouldn’t have been able to carry and/or deliver them !

  • Years ago when I WAS A MIDWIFE I can remember 2 babies were born naturally on the one day. One was 13 1/2 pounds and the other was 12 1/2 pounds. Babies this size are not common but most of the time the mums have had gestational diabetes.
