A two-year-old boy has died in hospital after being crushed by a brick wall near Toowoomba, south-east Queensland.
At 6.00pm on Tuesday evening the brick wall fell on the toddler at a property in Irongate.
Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor Stephen Johns said the boy has suffered critical head injuries.
He reported that ambulance workers treated the boy at the scene, and then he was flown directly to Lady Cilento Hospital in Brisbane.
“Paramedics were able to treat the patient on the scene and arranged for Careflight Toowoomba to meet our paramedics en route and they further stabilised the patient,” Stephen said. “It’s traumatic not only for the family, but also for our paramedics that respond to cases like this.”
Careflight confirmed the boy’s necessary flight and added that the boy’s mum accompanied him on the trip and they arrived at the hospital at 8.30pm. He died this afternoon from his injuries.
It is not known what caused the wall to collapse at this stage and Workplace Health and Safety officers are investigating the incident.
