A young boy remains critically ill in hospital after being pulled unconscious from a swimming pool at his daycare.

The two-year-old boy was rushed to Joondalup Health Campus on Monday morning.

The little boy still remains in a critical condition at Princess Margaret Hospital.

The boy’s carer rushed to neighbour, Keith Morrison, for help.

The fly-in fly-out worker was able to perform CPR for up to 15 minutes before paramedics arrived.

“Hopefully the little fella lives but if I hadn’t known CPR, I wouldn’t have known what to do so it’s very, very important that people learn CPR and know what to do in an emergency.”

Mr Morrison said “A lady came and rattled on the fly screen saying a child had drowned, he ran next door and started CPR.”

“I’m feeling for the parents and I’m feeling for the little girl next door,” he said.

“It’s pretty traumatic for her and most definitely for the parents.”

The father himself had recently updated his first aid training.

No word on how the toddler got into the fenced area.

Our thoughts are with the little boy and his family.

  • A horrible story. A timely reminder of the importance of pool safety.

  • This is such a tragedy. I agree with no pools in home day cares for sure.

  • They closed the day care centre while they go on with the investigations.
Now there is a proposal here in WA to ban swimming pools from family day care centres. I completely agree!

  • Oh wow!!! The poor little kid =( hope he recovers quickly and without complication!! Would be traumatizing for all involved!!
I hope punishment is delivered to the daycare carer, as I believe this is negligence on their behalf!

  • oh another pool incident, and it’s not even summer yet – how come there are so many toddler/child pool related accidents, what is missing to prevent this? Does there need to be some sort of govt intervention that says all children from a certain age need to have compulsory swimming lessons (subsidised by the govt) – to try and prevent accidents/deaths in pools? Thank goodness for neighbours and people that have their first aid up to date – hope everything works out for the little boy and his family

  • So heartbreaking for everyone involved. I hope he is ok.
I don’t understand how a family day care carer doesn’t know CPR.

  • Oh no, how horrible! To put your trust into a person to adequately care for your child, and then for them to fail in their duty of care is awful. That poor family. I’m sending prayers for a quick and healthy recovery

  • My 4 year old nephew drowned last year. It’s not something anyone EVER wants to go through. Awful. The very worst kind of awful.
