Finding resorts in Australia which are completely family friendly isn’t really too hard these days. There are resources online and in your local travel agents that can help you secure a package that includes a family friendly accommodation option.

Whether you like to plan years in advance or are more spur of the moment person who likes to book last minute flights and off-the-cuff accommodation options, this all changes when you have a family. You need to spend a little more time researching your accommodation options and finding a resort which is truly family friendly. Below are the top five across Australia.

In no particular order here are some great suggestions:

Paradise Resort – Gold Coast

The Paradise Resort Gold Coast is perfectly located near the central Surfer’s Paradise and is renowned for its family friendly reputation.  There’s the chance to fully throw yourself into an active adventurous holiday with kid’s waterparks and an exciting daily activity and entertainments programme for the whole family to enjoy. Of course there are top notch facilities for the parents too with fabulous dining facilities, an on-site gym and much more. Absolutely every family member will be satisfied with their stay.
Reef View Hotel – Hamilton Island

The best feature of the Reef View Hotel is its fantastic family friendly offer whereby children aged 0-12 stay and eat for free. The site also offers a whole range of fantastic sporting pursuits from golf to swimming to paddle skiing.

Turtle Beach Resort – Gold Coast

Turtle Beach promises luxury for the whole family in the middle of the Gold Coast and they don’t disappoint. Entertainment facilities for the whole family are on hand with the location central to all the major attractions on the Coast. The Kids Club – Club Turtle – is packed out with fun activities for 4-12 year olds including arts and crafts and games console rooms.

Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa – New South Wales

This resort is perfect for animal lovers and the luxury accommodation will provide a relaxing stay for all. There are both family and child-specific activities including Bush Arts and Crafts, Junior Ranger and Archery.

Lady Elliot Island Resort – Queensland

One of only three island resorts on the Great Barrier Reef, you can experience unparalleled natural beauty at this site. The corals are teeming with wildlife and it’s particularly famous for its population of 40 Manta Rays.  There are all sorts of fun activities from reef walking to beach snorkelling and more.

Fairmont Resort, Blue Mountains

Found in the Blue Mountain’s beautiful Leura and just a 90 minute drive from Sydney, the Fairmont is our top pick for family friendly luxury. From the high ceiling-ed foyer with a wood burning fire in the Winter, to the Merry Go Round, ten pin bowling alley, and mirror maze arcade in the Kidzone- this is sure to relax and bring a smile to every member of the family.

Sunraysia Resort, Mildura

In north-west Melbourne on the Murray River is the affordable Sunraysia Resort in a location known for its wineries, restaurants, and array of leisure and cultural activities. There are a heap of facilities for kids, including half-sized tennis courts, pools, mini golf, sandpits, table tennis and an arcade games room. Spacious rooms and a stunning natural backdrop, it definitely has earned a spot on our list.

Treasure Island NRMA Holiday Park, Gold Coast

When it comes to family holidays, BIG4 does it well. Close to all the great theme parks like Dreamworld, Movie World, Sea World and Wet n Wild, the whole family will enjoy activities like the Shipwreck Shores Waterpark, Pirate Mini Golf, one of three resort pools, or tennis. Parents can escape whilst the kids are having fun at the Kidz Korner (which runs 364 days a year), where they can jump on a giant pillow, ride on go-karts or use the play centre. Central to golden beaches and awesome shopping- there’s more entertainment than kids could ever hope for.

Coconut Holiday Resort, Cairns

In case you hadn’t realised yet, Queensland seems to be the place to go for family holidays with a heap of kids entertainment, and the Coconut Holiday Resort is one of the better ones. Kids can run around on 28 acres of lush lawns with palm trees, the ultimate tropical garden. From condos to cabins to villas, every family will find a nook suitable for them, and parents can get some down time when the kids are busy at the pool and waterslides, SPLASH water park, giant chess, adventure playground or nightly at the outdoor movie cinema. The Mini Coconuts area for children up to 6 years caters to tots perfectly with an indoor fun factory!

NRMA Ocean Beach Holiday Park, Umina beach

Ocean Beach Holiday Park on the NSW central coast is surrounded by bushland, and is a gorgeous family holiday location. Breakfast at the stunning Bluebottles By The Beach Cafe is followed by a heap of activities for kids, including go karts, a TV room with the latest movies, giant jumping pillows, bike riding on 25 hectares of land, or a Tractor Ride for a more relaxing way to get around the grounds. Coral the Mermaid can even sometimes be found lounging in the pool, and she loves taking photos with little hotel guests, as well as her friends Patch the Pirate Monkey, Finn the Surfing Dolphin, and Millie the Kangaroo.

Cocos Beach Bungalows, Broome

The “Pearlers” bungalows at Cocos Beach are self-contained and in a beautiful garden setting- this is the ideal destination for a family who wants to relax in Western Australia. Kids will enjoy the pool and nearby beach (where you can go camel riding!), as well as the several restaurants spots within walking distance including Japanese, Malaysian, seafood, and the Sunset Bar and Grill overlooking Cable Beach. It will feel like your family’s very own tropical island.

Australia is the perfect retreat for a family trip and there are great exciting experiences for every family member to enjoy.

  • Cost is a big issue unless you earn high wages. In so many cases it is cheaper to go to a Resort on an island like Fiji or others in the Caledonian region than it is to a cheap one in Aust……Unless the price structure has changed considerably it is cheaper to fly from Adelaide to Bali, have an overnight stay, then fly to Darwin and it is to fly directly Adelaide to Darwin..the same applies to “return” travel. Darwin – Bali – Adelaide….and if you own a business promote the Assistant Manager to Manager’s wages for the time you are away……and still save money. We know a guy who did exactly that when he went to a conference in Darwin a few years ago.
