Hello!

My bub is on the move! So it’s time to get serious about cleaning so my little one doesn’t pick up dirt and grime while he crawls around. These are my top tips on how to keep floors clean and safe for your crawling baby.

Take Off Your Shoes

This has been one of the best ways we’ve kept dirt away. I’ve noticed that whenever anyone comes into our house with shoes on, they also bring with them grime (and invisible germs) from the outdoors. So we’ve made it a rule for everyone to take off their shoes before coming indoors. We’ve put a nifty shoe rack near our front door so shoes can easily be stowed before walking inside. This ensures that everything that sticks to the bottom of shoes (we’re talking mud, sand and even dog poo) doesn’t get stomped into our floors and onto my baby’s hands and feet.

Use Top Quality Cleaning Products

You need to up your arsenal of cleaning products once your baby is on the move. This is no time to skimp on quality – you really want to arm yourself with superior products which in turn will give you optimal cleaning results. The best way to keep floors clean and safe for your crawling baby is to throw away old and disheveled brooms and mops and update your cleaning closet with the latest and greatest in cleaning products.

Above all, I recommend you buy the Vileda Easy Wring & Clean Turbo Spin Mop that’s being currently reviewed by our members.

This mop is so perfect to keep floors clean and safe for your crawling baby as it removes over 99% of bacteria with just water so there is no need to use harsh chemicals to get a thorough clean. This means that I don’t have to worry about my bub picking up any toxins from strong cleaning products on the floor.

The Easy Wring & Clean Turbo Spin Mop head is comprised of millions of tiny synthetic fibres, and when used with water, all of these tiny fibres loosen and physically pick up dirt and bacteria.

When cleaning your floors regularly with this mop, you can be confident that your floors are safe for your crawling baby.

If you are going to use any cleaning products, make sure that they’re non-toxic. Ideally, you would use natural DIY cleaning products such as a combination of water, baking soda and a splash of lemon!

Clean More Often

With your bub on the move, it’s important to clean your floors more often. I have got into the routine of using my Vileda Easy Wring & Clean Turbo Spin Mop at least once a day to give my floors a good clean. This is to ensure that my floor doesn’t build up a layer of grime and germs, which can easily be transferred to my baby’s hands, feet and mouth.

Use a Crawling Mat

Create a safe crawling area for your baby. Lay out a playmat on the floor so that your baby has a softer and safer surface to crawl on. Be sure to wash the playmat regularly so it doesn’t get dusty or dirty.

  • I have slate floors so my biggest concern was protecting my daughters little knees.

  • Definitely a good power clean daily and a vacuum and mop weekly. Baby is designed to explore and we spend more time outside exploring

  • Vileda mops are great to have, cheers.

  • I didn’t use vileda mops when my kids were babies, but daily vacuuming and daily mopping is sure what we did. And I agree with regularly washing the playmat.

  • I tried to bring the no shoes rule in to my house but my husband complained as he is in and out so often he would spend all day changing them.

  • Great tips for the little ones, their safety is so important! Love it!

  • I vacuum every day and mop twice a week, bubs usually stays in the safe space Most of the day (sectioned off big lounge room)

  • I steam my floors (after sweeping of course) and that’s about it. No chemicals just steam, kids need a bit of dirt in their lives so I won’t be sterilising my house. If you take them outside they won’t be crawling on spotless floors that have been treated with chemicals. Our parents never did it for us and their parents didn’t do it for them! We dint wear shoes in the house or let the dog in though so that cuts down on a bit of the outside mess

  • Another thing what doesn’t help at ours is that daily the bike and scooters go from the backyard – through the house – to the front…daily mopping sure is needed her ;)

  • Shoes off has no effect here. Kids walking all day on bare feet or on socks outside to inside and inside to outside

    • We vacuum every evening and I mop every morning and often I give the floor a quick brush in between. Upstairs I do it less frequently, but still mop the floors there around 4 times a week

  • We always take our shoes off inside, yet are always amazed by how much dirt still follows us in.
