Hello!

It’s all a bit surreal, isn’t it? It’s almost as if we’re living through a nightmare or the movie Contagion (if you haven’t seen it, don’t!!!).  I’ve put together some of my own top tips on how to survive Coronavirus reality.

Save On Paper Towel

Tea towels and facecloths are a great substitute for paper towel and tissues.  Use an antibacterial disinfectant to wash them with. Have a bucket full of water and the disinfectant ready to go in laundry and just put the tea towels and cloths in. Hang in the sun if possible.  The sunlight helps kill germs.  This saves on the paper towel and tissues, which we already now are very scarce.

Boil Boil

Boiling water kills germs.  I  pour the hot water over taps and dampen a cloth with the water to wipe door handles and then let them dry.

Spray

Glen20 spray is your friend.  Spray over surfaces without having to touch anything.  Benches, handles, taps. It’s my favourite germ killer.

Build Your Immune System

Warm lemon drinks and honey are good for building the immune system, in general.  Add more garlic to cooking.  Take a vitamin C tablet daily.

Fresh Air

Ventilate your home. We are having to isolate, but let the fresh air in.  Especially if disinfecting and it’s just better for everyone.

Be Toilet Paper Aware

Be conscious of how much toilet paper you use. Do you really need a bunch as big as your fist? With toilet paper being scarce, try and use less when you can.

Natural Cleaner

White vinegar and baking soda is a great natural cleaner for shower and toilet cleaning.

Are You OK?

Check up on your friends. Give them a call, facetime, skype, zoom or send a note. Ask how they are doing.  “Are you O.K?”

Bulk Up

Do a big cook-up! Cook some meals in bulk and freeze in containers or freezer bags.

Be Tolerant

Try and be more tolerant.  More understanding.  The elderly and more vulnerable are most at risk.  Do they have enough supplies? Offer to drop off a loaf of bread or milk so they do not have to leave home so often.  Make a call, or send a text.

Prioritise

Its times like this we really do understand what essentials and luxuries are. You may need to prioritise your shopping list. Make two columns – essentials and luxuries.

It is hard to cancel parties, anniversaries, trips, but everyone is on-pause and in a way, it’s a time to utilise compassion, communication, supply-sharing and getting back to the basics.  Temporarily.

These are all just my ideas and view, there’s a lot out there!  It’s not “crazy” it’s real.  And it’s all about taking care. Being aware and restructure for now.

  • Great tips – but when you really look at them, they boil down to ‘common sense’. Hopefully this latter product will start coming to the fore before long.

  • Trying to get some jobs done around the house that I never have time for and trying to stop the kids from getting cabin fever

  • i’m taking it easy. not too stressed about my son’s learning at the moment. kind of going iwththe flow. if he wants to read and write, we read and write – if he wants to play, we play!

  • Not getting too worked up about minor things. Take distancing, sanitising etc seriously, but don’t tie yourself in a knot over something minor.

  • I’ve found prioritising is the most important and has helped me stay sane too

  • Yep doing most of these as well

  • Probably doing most of these. I was shocked to do my grocery shop in Coles the other day! It was a month between my visits, following the stay home orders. Only differences I noticed was a girl wiping trolleys and baskets for shoppers coming in, the shelves were a lot emptier then usual and I had to pack my own groceries. Other then that, it all appeared to be business as usual, without a care in the world. Happy to see the big shops are now implementing limits on how many shoppers allowed in store at any one time, although I thinks it’s a bit late coming

  • Some great tips……I have disinfectant wipes and a bag in my car so once I’ve done my shopping I can wipe my hands, dispose it in the bag and I’m not carrying germs into my car.

  • These are great tips.
I’ll add – remember to be extra kind to yourself :)

  • All fantastic tips and we’re using/adhering to many of them. Just be kind and calm. We’re all in the same boat, so it’s no use being angry at anyone. It’s an opportunity to go back to living simply and being mindful of others and unselfish. Maybe there’s some big lessons in all of this.

  • Some great tips here !

  • Checking in on others via technology and following physical distancing guidelines is essential at this time.
Sharing products with family and friends that are in need and still continuing to support the community.
Following health and government guidelines on tackling the virus and acting as a member of a community.

    • Also; listen to and read reputable reports and information on the virus. Unfortunately there is misinformation out there too and we need to stay safe.

  • Good advice! I bought the old fashioned cloth nappies when pregnant with my first to be use for everything but as nappies! 6 years later I still use them for everything. Pour boiling water over them and they will clean most anything! As for the toilet paper, my kids have always been limited to 5 squares. They don’t always follow the guidelines (and sometimes you do need more) but mostly do well.
