Police have confirmed a woman and four-month-old baby have died after falling from a balcony in Melbourne’s CBD.

Police have said the 31-year-old woman and the baby were both found dead at the base of an apartment building on the corner of Spencer and Bourke Streets in Docklands at about 10.30am.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection to the two deaths.

It has been reported by some media outlets that the woman may have jumped. We can not confirm this information at this stage.

More details to come as they are shared.

  • OMG. I hope this was just a tragic accident. I’d hate to believe that a mother would do this to their child. It just broke my heart to read

  • What a dreadful tragedy! it made me cry when I read it. All facts not known at this stage, but what came to mind is depression can be literally a killer!. This may not be the case but there have been times in my life when younger I have felt this bad, lucky for me I got help and from unexpected places and I am glad to be alive now. As I said I may be wrong but it touched a trigger in me so had to write..

  • I do hope it wasn’t a deliberate act, but just how careful would you be with your baby in your arms on the 29th floor of a building?
So sorry for the loss of life. RIP

  • It may not have been suicide but the Police may never work it out.
Who knows, she could have been pushed. If it had been raining she could have slipped on a wet surface.
Regardless of the cause it is a double tragedy.

  • Oh! This is so sad. This woman must have felt so bad to decide to take her own life and the one of her baby. How tragic that nobody understood how much she was suffering. :-(
