Toddler killed after she was hit by a minibus.

Police believe passengers were getting out of the minibus when the 20-month-old girl moved to the front of the vehicle and was struck as it pulled away on Serenity Crescent Palm Island, in far North Queensland.

The girl was taken to Palm Island Hospital in a critical condition about 12.45pm (AEST), a Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said.

She had since died, the spokesperson confirmed to 9news.com.au.

Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit will be flown to Palm Island to investigate the incident.

  • How awful So many people would be blaming themselves, the bus driver and others. Do hope they all get help. RIP little one.

  • I feel for the family, bus driver and passengers. The child may have let go of an adult’s hand and ran onto the road. I don’t think the driver would have seen the child who may not even have been a bus passenger – we don’t know. I knew a little boy who was going into a shop with his Mum. Others with them have no idea why he did but he ran out of the shop into the side of a car and fell underneath it. The little boy died and the Mum had a nervous breakdown immediately and was in a phyciatric hospital within 24 hours. I cannot even begin to feel how the bus driver must feel now and long into the future.

  • such a shame that this has happened, may the little girl rest in peace.

I do wonder how this could happen though, surely there were people there watching her?

The poor bus driver too, he/she must be feeling pretty low right now :(
